SNAPkids - Special Needs Aquatic Program is an accessible and inclusive swimming program for children with disabilities. SNAP strives to help kids with disabilities, swim, build self-confidence, and have fun while highlighting abilities, respect, and more inclusive communities.
Swim with us! Our beautiful children with disabilities need swim partners! By volunteering, it means a swimmer can participate! Our special swimmers rely on our volunteer helpers to create the fun and the magic each week.
Responsibilities and Requirements
You must be at least 15.5 years old (young adults to retirees are welcome), a strong swimmer, and have a playful nature. We provide training and guidance. Come have fun with us in the pool!
Our special swimmers range from 1 - 21 years old and have physical and / or developmental challenges such as cerebral palsy and autism. You will be paired with a swimmer and another volunteer to create fun activities to meet the needs of your swimmer. Training and support are provided, leadership opportunities are available.
Commitment and Schedule
We ask that you commit at least one hour per week, (more are encouraged) for at least one seven-week session (fall, winter, spring). Our classes are currently on Saturdays in Palo Alto. As our swimmers do better with consistency, and we give preference to volunteers who can have regular attendance and commit to more than one quarter.
