Assoc Underwriting Mgr or AVP, Underwriting Mgr- Middle Market

Zurich is currently looking for an Assoc Underwriting Mgr or AVP, Underwriting Mgr- Middle Market to support our production underwriting team. This hybrid position will be based out of our Long Island office and is a unique leadership opportunity. In this role you will manage a small team of underwriters while also being an individual contributor with your own select book of business. This position requires you to be visible in the marketplace to meet with our agents and brokers and to be in the office two days per week to lead team collaboration days.

Responsibilities :

Provide coaching and mentoring to a team of underwriters

Manage underwriting and rate strategies to promote profitable growth

Manage relationships with key internal stakeholders in order to identify opportunities for service improvement to ensure commercial viability and customer satisfaction.

Underwrite and analyze new and renewal business within delegated authority levels.

Develop and maintain relationships with distributors (agents and brokers) in support of business retention and new business and work with customers and distributors (agents & brokers) to determine their insurance-related needs and provide solutions.

Support the organization's sales culture by being a trusted advisor for agents, brokers, and customers.

This role will be filled at either as an Assoc Underwriting Mgr or AVP, Underwriting Mgr. The hiring manager will determine the appropriate level based upon the selected applicant’s experience and skill set relative to the qualifications listed for this position.

Basic Qualifications :

Assoc Underwriting Mgr :

High School Diploma or Equivalent and 5 or more years of experience in the Underwriting or Market Facing area

OR

High School Diploma or Equivalent and 10 or more years of experience in the Claims or Underwriting Support area

OR

Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice including an Associate Degree and 3 or more years of experience in the Underwriting or Market Facing area

OR

Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice including an Associate Degree and 8 or more years of experience in the Claims or Underwriting Support area

AND

Experience with Microsoft Office

OR

AVP, Underwriting Mgr :

High School Diploma or Equivalent and 7 or more years of experience in the Underwriting or Market Facing area.

OR

High School Diploma or Equivalent and 14 or more years of experience in the Claims or Underwriting Support area

OR

Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice including an Associate Degree and 5 or more years of experience in the Underwriting or Market Facing area

AND

2 or more years of management experience

Preferred Qualifications :

Bachelors Degree

Advanced knowledge of line / s of business

Ability to manage and build rapport with team

Excellent organizational, written, oral communication and presentation skills

Advanced knowledge of the insurance industry and the legal and regulatory guidelines

6 months or more of supervisory or management experience

Established Producer relationships

Advanced skills in relationship building, active listening, needs analysis, and win-win negotiating

Strong presentation skills and a solutions and service orientation

Compensation for roles at Zurich varies depending on a wide array of factors including but not limited to the specific office location, role, skill set, and level of experience. As required by local law, Zurich provides in good faith a reasonable range of compensation for roles. Candidates with salary expectations outside of the range are encouraged to apply, and will be considered based on experience, skill, and education. The salary provided is a nationwide market range and has not been adjusted for the applicable geographic differential associated with the location where the position may be filled. The combined salary range for this position is $ 141,400.00 - $266,300.00 . The proposed salary range for the Assoc Underwriting Mgr level is $ 141,400.00 - $231,400.00 , with short-term incentive bonus eligibility set at 15%. For the AVP, Underwriting Mgr level is $ 162,500.00 - $266,300.00, with short-term incentive bonus eligibility set at 20%.
