OVERVIEW :

The Newton Municipal School District is seeking a skilled anddedicated Diesel Mechanic to join our transportation team.

The ideal candidate will possess expertise in maintaining diagnosing and repairing diesel engines and related systems in our fleet of school buses and other diesel-powered vehicles. This position offers an opportunity to contribute to the safe and efficient operation of our transportation department ensuring the reliability of our vehicles for transporting students to and from school andother activities.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES

• Perform routine maintenance tasks on diesel engines including oil changes filter replacements and lubrication.
• Conduct thorough inspections of diesel engines and associated components to identify any issues or potential problems.
• Diagnose mechanical electrical and hydraulic problems and perform necessary repairs in a timely manner.
• Repair or replace defective parts such as pistons valves bearings gears and brake systems.
• Use diagnostic tools and equipment to troubleshoot engine performance issues and ensure proper functioning.
• Adhere to safety protocols and guidelines while working with diesel engines and related equipment.
• Maintain accurate records of maintenance and repairs performed on each vehicle.
• Collaborate with other members of the transportation team to prioritize tasks and coordinate vehicle maintenance schedules.
• Keep work area clean and organized ensuring tools and equipment are properly maintained.
• Stay informed about advancements in diesel engine technology and participate in training opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge.
