Registered Nurse – PCU

Facility : Ballad Health – Johnson City Medical Center

Location : 400 N State of Franklin Rd, Johnson City, TN 37604-6094

Start Date : October 12, 2025

End Date : 13-week contract

Duration : 13 weeks

Shift : Night Shift (6 : 30 PM – 7 : 00 AM)

Schedule : 3x12-hour shifts / week

Hours : 36 hours / week

Position Overview

Ballad Health – Johnson City Medical Center is seeking a Registered Nurse with PCU experience for a night shift travel assignment. This role includes providing care for adult patients in a progressive care / telemetry unit with a focus on cardiac monitoring and emergency response. Nurses will be required to float within the hospital units as needed. The schedule includes rotating weekends and holidays with self-scheduling offered. No call responsibilities.

Certifications & Requirements

  • RN License : Active Tennessee RN License or Compact License – Required
  • Certifications :

    • ACLS – Required

  • BLS – Required
  • NIHSS – Required
  • Flu Vaccine (2025-2026) : Required with medical / religious exemptions only
  • COVID-19 Vaccine : Not required
  • Orientation : 16 non-billable hours

    • Experience Required

  • Minimum 2 years nursing experience (1 year PCU experience acceptable)
  • First-time travelers welcome
  • Previous charge nurse experience : Not required

    • Skills & Competencies

  • Patient Ratio : PCU ratio 1 : 5; Med / Surg ratio 1 : 7 when floated
  • Clinical Skills :

    • Telemetry / Cardiac monitoring and interpretation of dysrhythmias

  • IV therapy including blood product administration, central line and peripheral line care
  • Management of cardiac drips (no titration)
  • Phlebotomy
  • Respiratory care including nasal cannula, oxygen administration, and non-invasive airway management
  • Use of rapid response / code teams
  • Professional Skills :

    • Isolation precautions

  • Strong critical thinking and communication skills
  • Floating : Required within hospital units

  • Holidays : Rotating holidays coverage
  • Interdisciplinary Support : IV Teams, Physical Therapy, Respiratory Services, Interpretation Services, Phlebotomy, Radiology, Social Services, Rapid Response Teams, Pharmacy, Transportation, Unit Secretary
  • Patient Diagnoses : Varied progressive care diagnoses typical of PCU setting
  • Special Procedures / Unit Details : Dialysis, Peritoneal dialysis
