Nashua, NH (92,000 pop.) seeks an experienced and collaborative leader to serve as the next Chief Financial Officer (CFO), replacing a long-tenured (15 years) and highly regarded CFO who is retiring. Nashua, New Hampshire’s second largest city, is located in Hillsborough County in the southern portion of the State. It provides a dynamic region in which to live and work with multiple options for cultural arts, recreation, dining, history, medical campuses and educational opportunities.

The Chief Financial Officer is appointed by the Mayor and works under his / her direction, overseeing the Financial Services Division and the operations, management and functions of the Financial Reporting, Treasurer and Tax Collector offices. The position has six direct reports and oversees an annual budget of approximately $475 million. Other responsibilities of the CFO include : preparation of the Mayor’s proposed annual budget; long-range financial planning; coordination, analysis and negotiation of all new debt instruments; and development of fiscal performance measurements. The position requires effective management and supervisory experience, the ability to define issues and analyze information in order to present proposals and recommended courses of action, and the ability to use tact, discretion and diplomacy in dealing with individuals and customers, both internal and external.

The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor’s Degree, Masters preferred, in accounting, finance, business or a related field and five (5) to seven (7) years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. A background in municipal finance and knowledge of applicable City and State laws and regulations governing the City’s activities is preferred. The position is Grade 22 with a salary in the range of the mid to high $160,000 along with a comprehensive benefits package, starting salary commensurate with qualifications.
