The Center for Research to AdvanceCommunity Health (ReACH) under the Joe R. and Teresa Lozano Long School ofMedicine at UT Health San Antonio invites applications for a Biostatistican forits broad-based portfolio of population health and outcomesresearch. Founded in in partnership with the University of TexasSchool of Public Health and University Health System, the ReACH Center has adiverse array of federally- and state-funded research projects addressing majorhealth threats to the population of South Texas and the nation.
The ReACH Center, directed by JoelTsevat, MD, MPH, offers a unique environment for inter-disciplinary,collaborative research in a wide range of fields related to population health,health services research, patient-centered outcomes research, community-engagedresearch, and T/T translational research. Opportunities are availablefor collaboration and affiliations with clinical departments in the Schools ofMedicine, Nursing, Dentistry, and Health Professions, the UT School of PublicHealth, and Dell Medical School at UT Austin.
Candidates should be qualified forappointment at the Assistant Professor /Associate Professor/ Professor level. Hiring Track (Tenure or NonTenure) to be determined based on the experience and qualifications of the candidate. Candidatesare expected to have experience as a collaborating statistician on a variety ofstudy designs as well as expertise in using statistical software (, R orSAS). Candidates must have expertise in a wide variety of analytic methodsappropriate to health services research or population health research. Responsibilitiesof the position will include collaborating with multidisciplinary researchteams engaged in population health research, health services research,patient-centered outcomes research, community-engaged research, healtheconomics, health decision sciences, T/T translational research, biomedicalinformatics, epidemiology, or value-based health care as well serving asleading methodological research for a thriving research center. The selectedcandidate will be expected to serve as principal investigator on externally-fundedprojects and as co-investigator with interdisciplinary research teams. Otherresponsibilities will include: developing new research grants, mentoringmedical and graduate students as well as post-doctoral Population Health Fellows,engaging community partners, representing ReACH at regional, national andinternational meetings, and writing papers for publication.
Qualifications:
() An earned doctoral degree in Biostatisticsor similar methodologic area; () a track record of obtaining peer‐reviewed external funding and publishing in theabove areas; () excellent communication skills; () a strong work ethic; and ()enthusiasm for team science.
Aboutthe ReACH Center:
TheReACH Center serves as a hub for health services and population health researchamong the various institutions in the San Antonio area, with a focus on the counties of South Texas extending to the US-Mexico border. The ReACH Centerworks closely with the Institute for Integration of Medicine and Science (IIMS),which has been the home of UT Health San Antonio’s Institutional CTSA since. Locally and regionally, the IIMS serves as the academic home for clinicaland translational research. Its numerous research resources includebiostatistics, epidemiology, and research design support, biomedicalinformatics support including access to REDCap and data warehousing;community-engaged research; and regulatory support. The CTSA grant has just beenrenewed until .

TheSouth Texas population experiences disproportionate rates of diabetes, obesity,certain cancers, and other health conditions that are exacerbated by limitedaccess to care – Texas has the highest proportionof uninsured residents in the nation. South Texas’ stressed health careinfrastructure necessitates highly effective, practical approaches to improvingoutcomes, in the face of resource limitations. The socio-economic status andhealth disparities present in our region present both challenges andopportunities for medical research that are relevant and important to thehealth and welfare of the entire US. Benefits OverviewUT Health San Antonio offers an excellent benefits package for its employees. Employees who work at least hours a week, with an appointment of at least months, are eligible for benefits.
Medical- UT SELECT Medical insurance is offered free for employees and administered by Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas. Family members can be added to the plan through payroll deduction. Time Off- A generous leave program offers multiple paid leave options:
Front-loaded Paid Time Off: to hours ( to days) of Paid Time Off based on years of service, given at the start of each fiscal year. PTO may be prorated in year one based on date of hire.
Extended Illness Bank: hours ( day) accrued per month which can be used for illness or injury after one day of Paid Time Off is taken.
Paid Family Leave: Up to hours ( weeks) to care for a spouse, child, or parent after months of consecutive employment.
Holidays: set paid holidays each year plus three floating holidays, which can be used anytime during the fiscal year.
