The Role

First-line supervisor managing the work of electricians and contractors engaged in the troubleshooting, repair, inspection, maintenance, and construction of light rail signal systems;

ensuring that it is maintained to the highest applicable safety, industry, government, manufacturer, and agency standards.

Shift : 10 : 30pm - 6 : 30am Days off : Friday and Saturday

Responsibilities

  • Maintain / Supervise MetroLink’s Signal System Maintenance Program and associated documentation, so that it addresses preventive, corrective, and rehabilitative maintenance meeting or exceeding all applicable manufacturer, industry, government, and agency standards.
  • Inspect the quality of installed signal systems and associated documentation, ensuring installation meets all applicable manufacturer, industry, government, and agency standards.
  • Supervise and develop ML Electricians so that they safely inspect and maintain MetroLink’s Signal System accordance with all applicable manufacturers, industry, government and agency standards realizing best value for each labor dollar.
  • Provide internal and external customer service for all persons, contractors, consultants, and other Bi-State departments who require an interface with the MetroLink right-of-way.
  • Manage material ensuring adequate stocking levels to meet supply demands realizing the best value for each maintenance dollar.
  • Special Projects and other duties as assigned.
  • Support the Agency's Safety Programs.
  • Provide support to other Rail Systems Departments.
  • Knowledge, Skill, & Abilities
  • Knowledge of signal maintenance practices needed to inspect, test and maintain the BSDA signal systems.
  • Knowledge of railroad / rail transit signal system operation. Knowledge of BSDA, local, state, and federal signal regulations.
  • Knowledge of all signal publications, standards, and manuals.
  • Knowledge of railroad / rail transit operations.
  • Knowledge of Electromagnetic Interference and its effects on the signal systems.
  • Knowledge of the impacts of track, traction power, and rail operations on signal system operation and maintenance.
  • Knowledge of the National Electric Code.
  • Experience in Computer Aided Drafting, surveying, and construction management.
  • Skilled at dealing with management and represented personnel.
  • Skilled at identifying and rectifying signal system related problems.
  • Skilled at evaluating and reviewing signal specifications and drawings.
  • Ability to evaluate and implement strategies to efficiently troubleshoots signal system failures.
  • Ability to develop implements and updates signal maintenance programs.
  • Ability to recognize and evaluate maintenance trends using inspection data.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to manage and direct subordinates.
  • Ability to work in any weather conditions, at any time of the day or night.
  • Ability to walk at least twenty miles per week over ballast track and uneven surfaces.
  • Ability to distinguish colors.

Education

Experience

Degree : Two-year college or technical highly desirable.

Years : Minimum Three (3) to five (5) years required.

Field : Electrical Engineering Technology or related field

Filed : Signal Maintenance, Rail Transportation, or related field.
