Bankruptcy Legal Assistant – Maryland

Key Responsibilities :
- Provide administrative and legal support to attorneys specializing in bankruptcy law.
- Prepare, proofread, and organize bankruptcy petitions, schedules, and other legal documents using legal software.
- Conduct case research, file documents with courts electronically, and maintain case files to ensure accuracy and compliance with state and federal regulations.
- Communicate with clients, creditors, courts, and trustees to gather required documentation and provide case status updates.
- Monitor bankruptcy deadlines, ensuring all filings are submitted in a timely manner.
- Manage calendars, schedule meetings and hearings, and coordinate with attorneys and clients.
- Maintain confidentiality regarding case and client information.
Qualifications & Skills :
Experience : Minimum of 2 years of experience as a Legal Assistant, Paralegal, or in a related capacity, preferably with a focus on bankruptcy law.Education : Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Legal Studies, Paralegal Studies, or similar field (paralegal certificate preferred).Technical Skills : Proficiency in case management software (e.g., Best Case, Electronic Case Filing), Microsoft Office Suite, and legal research tools.Knowledge : Familiarity with Chapter 7, Chapter 11, and Chapter 13 bankruptcy proceedings, as well as federal and state bankruptcy laws.Personal Attributes : Strong organizational skills, excellent written and verbal communication abilities, and exceptional attention to detail.Ability to multitask and prioritize in a deadline-driven environment.Minimum of 1-3 years of experience in legal support within a legal environment.Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and electronic filing systems for state and federal courts.Strong organizational and multitasking skills with attention to detail.Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.Ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team.Familiarity with document management systems preferred.Demonstrated ability to handle multiple projects and meet tight deadlines.Strong interpersonal skills to effectively interact with clients, attorneys, and team members.
