We are seeking Soninke Over-the-Phone Interpreters (OPI) to support our USCIS contract. Soninke, also known as Maraka or Sarakole, is a Mande language spoken in Mali, Senegal, Mauritania, Ivory Coast, and Gambia, and is a rare but important language often required for asylum and immigration proceedings.
Responsibilities
Provide real-time Soninke English telephonic interpretation for USCIS officers, applicants, and stakeholders.Interpret with accuracy, impartiality, and professionalism in immigration, legal, and asylum contexts.Maintain confidentiality under USCIS / DHS interpreter standards.Manage both scheduled assignments and urgent / surge calls.Participate in training, compliance refreshers, and QA audits.Qualifications
Native or near-native fluency in Soninke and English.2+ years of professional interpreting experience (immigration, asylum, NGO, community, or government strongly preferred).Strong cultural knowledge of West African Soninke-speaking communities.Familiarity with interpreter ethics, confidentiality, and impartiality standards.Must be a U.S. Citizen or permanent resident eligible for Tier 3 / Tier 5 clearance.Compensation & Benefits
