JOB SUMMARY :

Responsible for operation of central monitor station in CICU. Continuous observation of all patient parameters for patients on telemetry throughout the hospital including the adult ICUs.

Reporting of patient changes to the responsible nurse and / or physician.

This posting reflects multiple positions for the 12 hr Day Shift*

$2,500 Sign On Bonus w / 2 year agreement)

JOB SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES :

  • Recognizes potentially life threatening rhythms and efficiently notifies the appropriate personnel.
  • Identifies one person to give a Handoff Report to when leaving the monitor room for breaks, to

take reports or boxes and at shift change.

All patient alarms must remain intact at all times. Alarm level at central station must not be set

below the soft level and must be verified and documented at the beginning of every shift.

  • Consistently demonstrates clinical expertise through performance and ongoing education.
  • Participates in activities that promote hospital and / or professional development.
  • Demonstrates organizational and prioritizations skills
  • Attends 80% of all staff meetings and / or unit specific required in-services.
  • Participates in cost containment strategies to maintain budgeted cost per patient day.
  • Participates in hospital activities not covered elsewhere in previous sections. (Committee

membership, Peer Interviewing, Departmental or Hospital-Wide Competitions etc...)

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE :

High School Diploma or GED.

Must have knowledge of cardiac anatomy and physiology and in depth knowledge of cardiac electrophysiology and interpretation of cardiac arrhythmias.

REQUIRED LICENSURES / CERTIFICATIONS / REGISTRATIONS :

Monitor Technician Course preferred.

Successful completion of the Monitor Technician BKAT with a score of 80% or higher within the first 6 months of employment.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES :

Must have knowledge of operation and trouble shooting of central station monitors.

INTERACTION WITH OTHER DEPARTMENTS AND OTHER RELATIONSHIPS :

This position requires close interaction with the medical staff, nursing staff, and ancillary departments in order to facilitate a quality multidisciplinary approach to patient care.

PHYSICAL CAPABILITIES :

Work is mostly sedentary; visual acuity required to watch monitors, interpret EKG strips and observe patients for lead placement problems;

talking and hearing essential for reporting arrhythmias and following instructions; motor coordination necessary to document strips, and work with monitor console.

ENVIRONMENTAL / WORKING CONDITIONS :

Work is inside. Hours of duty may be irregular when assistance in covering various shifts is necessary. Exposure to blood born pathogens is of medium risk.
