Position Summary

The Facilities Manager is responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of the XL Center, including setting up and tearing down events, maintaining the overall cleanliness of the arena, and ensuring the general maintenance of equipment and the facility. Events such as AHL hockey, college basketball, concerts, graduations, theater shows, trade shows, and other public events provide the Facilities Manager with hands-on experience in event setups, changeovers, housekeeping/custodial work, and general maintenance. The Facilities Manager plays a key role in ensuring a smooth and efficient operation by helping manage and supervise the building’s operational activities, ensuring overall cleanliness and functionality. Additionally, the Facilities Manager will assist the Operations Manager with administrative planning, policy implementation, and maintaining high-quality service to ensure client satisfaction. As a liaison, the Facilities Manager facilitates communication and coordination among the custodial, operations, and engineering staff.

This role will pay an yearly salary of $47,000 to $52,000.

The XL Center is Connecticut’s premier destination for sports & entertainment.
The 15,000+ seat downtown arena is home to the eleventh-time National Champion UConn Women's Basketball team and the six-time National Champion UConn Men's Basketball team. Led by Hall of Fame basketball Head Coach Geno Auriemma and Dan Hurley, the Men's & Women's basketball programs have established themselves as national powerhouses.

The XL Center is also home to the AHL’s Hartford Wolf Pack, the primary developmental affiliate of the New York Rangers.

The XL Center entertains millions of visitors annually with a variety of concerts, family shows, ice-skating spectaculars, consumer events, and trade shows throughout the season. Responsibilities

• Conduct daily building walks to assess overall presentation & cleanliness of facility, ensuring smooth day-to-day operations
• Assist in managing event set-up and tear-down for all events held at the XL Center
• Provide support during the morning set-up on event days
• Support overall event operations during events. Assist with post-event breakdown, changeover, and clean-up activities.
• Handle administrative tasks for the Operations department, including hiring, training, evaluating, motivating, payroll, scheduling, and disciplinary actions.
• Develop, maintain, and manage operating procedures related to changeovers and post-event cleaning.
• Inventory and track all show equipment and cleaning supplies used before, during, and after each event.
• Create and manage day-to-day work orders for the operations staff.
• Implement preventative maintenance logs to ensure the upkeep of heavy machinery/cleaning equipment, such as forklifts and scrubbers.
• Participate in the development and administration of the Operations Department budget; forecast future staffing, equipment, material, and supply needs; monitor and approve expenditures.
• Order and maintain supplies and materials for building maintenance within budget guidelines.
• Assist in developing pre-show staffing estimates for the Event Manager and Accounting department. Review and recommend operational policies and procedures for the Operations department.
• Facilitate compliance, training, and updates to the Emergency Action Plan as needed.
• Assist with building health and safety compliance.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Operations Manager and Conversions Manager.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s/Technical degree from an accredited college/university/school, preferred
• Three to five years’ experience in facility operations management including at least one year of building changeover or custodial work in arena, convention center or public assembly facility, preferred
• Demonstrated knowledge of facility management, supervisory skills, and experience in staff supervision
• Ability to function in a fast paced, high-pressure environment and possess superior interpersonal and communication skills
• Ability to work flexible schedules and demanding hours including overnights, weekends and holidays as required.
• Proficient with general MS Office and PC applications
• Knowledge of budget preparation and control.
• Familiarity with OSHA requirements.
• Ability to coordinate multiple tasks and prioritize quickly.
• Must be self-motivated and have excellent organizational skills
