Food Technologist - Pilot Plant

Position Summary

Implement Pilot Plant activities concerned with the R&D development and production of new and improved products. Performs experimental objectives, design, and interpretation of results for product development in collaboration with R&D Team.

Essential Job Functions

  • Prepare R&D samples and keep accurate records, including but not limited to, weight, measure, time, temperature, pressure, rpm, vacuum, pH, yields, texture, and chemistry
  • Orders raw ingredients; conducts ingredient screens; completes safety and storage documentation on ingredients; batching formulas and communicates formula observations to R&D team
  • Review technical data sheets; build prototypes; tests new design and ingredients in the pilot plant to ensure product compliance of quality standards before production launch;

maintains documentation related to testing, recipes, and formulations

  • Operate food manufacturing equipment
  • Provide day to day guidance for Pilot Plant Food Technicians; provide feedback on hiring, disciplinary actions, and training
  • Develop, implement and manage Pilot Plant HACCP procedures
  • Ensure R&D products adheres to all food safety regulations and standards
  • Include all the Quality program checks developed for the Pilot Plant Products

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree majoring in Food Sciences, Culinary Art or science related fields or equivalent years of related work experience
  • Two (2) years of experience working in processed meat manufacturing

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Strong sense of responsibility, ownership, and pride in delivering quality results for the R&D

Physical Requirements

While performing duties of this job, the associate is regularly required to stand; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms.

The associate is frequently required to walk. The associate is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl and talk or hear.

The associate is occasionally required to lift and / or a minimum of 25 lbs. Specific vision abilities may be required by this job include close vision, color vision, depth perception and ability to focus.

While performing the duties of this job, the associate is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts, toxic or caustic chemicals and fumes or airborne particles.

The noise level in the work environment ranges from normal office levels to loud.
