The *Chief Scientific Officer *partners with dyad VP - Research to co-lead the research department. The Chief Scientific Officer (CSO) is responsible for helping to develop the strategy, physician relations and external stakeholder relations.

Together with VP of Research they oversee the overall mission, vision, strategy, growth initiatives, and culture for the research department.

The CSO supports effective relationships between physician and research administration personnel, providing mentorship as necessary.

The CSO oversees internal communication with providers and has oversight in matters of physician behavior in the conduct of research.

The CSO oversees the Research Medical Directors for each of the Centers of Excellence as well as the Executive Chair of the Internal Review Board.

In addition, the CSO convenes the Physician Research Advisory Council and the Physician Research Steering Committee , engaging research leaders and scholars throughout the health system.

In collaboration with the development group, this leader supports efforts to drive philanthropic contributions for academics and manages external relationships with key stakeholders.

The Chief Scientific Officer and the VP - Research jointly report to the Chief Academic Officer. Chief Scientific Officer position requires a minimum of 0.

Work Experience *Required - 10 years of experience in successfully leading research programs / departments; history of investigator-initiated, industry sponsored research, institutional review boards, and publications in peer-reviewed journals.

Experience in health science research, outcomes, and population research preferred.*Knowledge Skills and Abilities (KSAs) Proficiency in using computers, software, and web-based applications.

  • Effective verbal and written communication skills and ability to present information clearly and professionally.* Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to evaluate and interpret financial information to create action* Ability to persuade, lead through influence, set a vision, and build an effective team* Knowledge of research funding mechanisms for federal, foundation, and industry-sponsored projects* Knowledge of grant application processes and review criteria to facilitate creation of stronger submissions for funding* Track record of collaboration across institutions.

  • Adapts behavior to the specific patient population, including but not limited to respect for privacy, method of introduction to the patient, adapting explanation of services or procedures to be performed, requesting permissions and communication style.
  • Ensures strategic development, growth, financial and operational profitability of the Research Department. Develops and achieves long term strategic business plans through effective relationship building, communication, planning and fundraising.
  • Oversees the physical and technological infrastructure and develops organizational structures, programs, and processes.
  • Performs other related duties as required.* Works with senior leadership to grow the culture of academic innovation through development of compensation and recognition programs that encourage active engagement of physician researchers.
