Position Summary :
The Staff Accountant supports the mission of the YMCA by maintaining accurate financial records for all branches and programs. This role performs daily accounting operations, supports the monthly close process, and ensures compliance with GAAP and FASB 958 nonprofit reporting standards. The position provides accurate, timely information to support decision-making by leadership and directors. The incumbent will demonstrate excellent organizational, time management and problems solving skills. Qualifications :
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; required.Minimum 2 years of accounting experience; required. Nonprofit or YMCA experience; preferred.Working knowledge of GAAP and FASB 958 nonprofit reporting; required.Proficiency with accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Microsoft Dynamics GP, or Sage Intacct) and advanced Excel skills; required.Experience with Daxko Operations or similar membership management systems.Strong attention to detail, analytical ability, and integrity in financial reporting.Experience with fund accounting, cost allocations, and grant compliance.Understanding of membership revenue cycles, childcare billing, and program cost structures.Familiarity with board reporting and audit preparation processes.Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a collaborative environment.Ability to work with people from a variety of different ethnic, socioeconomic, educational, religious, sexual, and generational backgrounds.Essential Functions :
Record and reconcile daily revenue from Daxko Operations software, including membership drafts, childcare tuition, program fees, and donations.Process and reconcile all accounts payable and receivable transactions in accordance with YMCA policies and internal controls.Prepare and record journal entries for payroll allocations, benefits, and expenses across branches.Reconcile bank accounts, petty cash, and investment balances monthly.Maintain general ledger integrity and ensure proper coding of restricted, designated, and unrestricted funds.Assist with preparation of monthly branch financial statements, budget-to-actual analyses, and management reports.Support program directors with budget tracking, expense reporting, and grant expenditure compliance.Assist with audit preparation, year-end closing, and 990 documentation.Maintain accurate fixed-asset records and coordinate capital project accounting.Ensure all accounting activity complies with YMCA of the USA, FASB, and internal control standards.Participate in cross-departmental collaboration to improve financial processes and data accuracy.Attend and participate in center wide activities, staff meetings and trainings.Follow YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention and emergency procedures.Perform other duties as assigned.Working Environment & Physical Demands :
