Sterile Processing Technician

JOB SUMMARY

RESPONSIBILITIES :

Performs supply processing and distribution functions according to prescribed procedures and techniques.

II. TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS :

Standing, walking, stooping / bending, finger dexterity, seeing, hearing, speaking, pushing / pulling up to 20 pounds of force;

static gripping of an object for prolonged periods.

• Frequent : kneeling, carrying weight of 20 pounds up to 40 pounds; reaching above, at and below shoulders.
• Occasional : sitting, climbing stairs, walking on uneven ground; squatting, twisting body, repetitive arm / hand motions.

III. TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS :

• Some exposure to extreme hot or cold while in decontam, subjected to noise / vibration from steam gun and sterilizers.
• Frequently exposed to hazardous materials (detergents and antiseptic solutions); works with operating equipment.

IV. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :

A. EDUCATION / CERTIFICATION AND LICENSURE :

• Academic background with courses in general and biologic science preferred.
• Successful completion of Central Service Training course preferred.

B. EXPERIENCE :

• One (1) year experience as a SP Aide or comparable work experience.
• Ability to understand procedures relating to sterile techniques and processing, infection control procedures, patient care equipment, supply functions and inventory control procedures.
• Ability to speak, read, write and understand English both orally and in writing.
