Job Summary

The Technology Project II Manager leads teams through the implementation of technology, business, and academic projects for the Anchorage School District.

The position has a retirement association with the Public Employees’ Retirement System (PERS).

Job Requirements

The following are required :

  • A bachelor’s degree in project management or business administration. Equivalent experience, education, or training may be considered in lieu of the degree requirement.
  • A minimum of 4 years of project management experience.
  • A minimum of 2 years of information technology experience.

The following are preferred :

  • Current Project Management Institute certification and / or Certified Scrum Master (CSM).
  • Knowledge of the Project Management Institute’s project management life cycle.
  • Experience working with an educational institution.

Essential Job Functions

  • Manages multiple Project Management Office projects from initiation to close.
  • Analyzes business needs and develops project plans to attain expected outcomes.
  • Develops project charters outlining scope, objectives, stakeholders, requirements, risks, schedule, budget, and project authorization.
  • Manages tasks, decisions, issues, changes, training plans, support plans, testing plans, and procurement activities.
  • Monitors and controls project scope, schedule, risks, resources, quality, and customer satisfaction throughout the project life cycle.
  • Analyzes inter-dependencies between technology, operations, and business / education needs.
  • Coordinates project activities and communicates with project team and stakeholders.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of the project management life cycle, agile methods, software implementation, and testing techniques.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of effective stakeholder and change management practices and communication strategies.
  • Performs project evaluations and assessment of results.
  • Complies with ASD policy and project standards and with state, federal, and local laws and regulations.
  • Prepares memorandums, status updates, and conducts presentations for the Anchorage School Board.
  • Influences and promotes change and enhances performance within a cross-functional environment.
  • Works in an ambiguous environment and collaborates across multiple areas to reach a common objective.
  • Establishes and maintains productive working relationships with others, including effective communication with all levels of management, supervision, and other ASD personnel.

Physical / Mental Demands

The physical demands of this job require frequent standing, walking, sitting, speaking and hearing. Specific visual abilities are also required.

The employee is regularly required to reach with his / her hands and arms and occasionally lift items weighing less than 40 lbs.

Additionally, the employee must be able to understand vague and implicit instructions, be able to readily recall facts and details, handle conflict and make effective decisions under pressure.

The employee must have the ability to effectively manage the stress of working with students, parents, and other employees representing diverse cultures, personalities, and work styles in a dynamic work environment.

Work is performed in a professional environment with a wide variety of individuals having differing functions, personalities and abilities, including working with diverse groups of people in a variety of different settings.

While performing the duties of this job the employee may be regularly exposed to a video display. The employee may be exposed to outdoor weather conditions.

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
