Responsible for performing a wide variety of tasks in support of the efficient and effective operation of the animal care center. Provides assistance to the public on animal related matters. Schedules client intakes and processes guest intake data, assists with adoption of animals. Provides basic needs of the animals such as cleaning, feeding, and exercise. Performs tasks necessary to maintain the safety and sanitation of the care center. Work is performed under the supervision of the Animal Services Shelter Supervisors.
Position Duties
- Escort customers through the care center; assist customers in completing standardized applications, forms and other related material required.
- Cleaning and disinfecting animal cages, animal runs, floor and hallways, reception area.
- Launders of bedding, toys, and supplies.
- Greet visitors, answer phones, and provides information to clients and resolves issues.
- Receive and examine incoming animal upon intake for behavior, diseases, injuries and adoptability.
- Assists clients in surrender of animal,
- Enters data and maintains records on animals.
- Records details of animal history, such as, weight, food intake and license number.
- Processes payments for various services, including adoptions and licenses.
- Provide daily care for animals in the shelter including preparing and providing food in animal feed pans and water in animal water pans.
- Observes shelter animals and reports signs of illness or behavior problems.
- Calculate fees for various shelter related services including adoptions, and license tags, and other routine mathematical calculations, receives monies, post amounts.
- Enters data into the animal tracking system.
- Provides animal enrichment services such as walking dogs and playing with the animals.
- May perform and assist with the necessary euthanasia of animals.
- Excellent customer services skills are required, including strong communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to deal tactfully with the public and explain laws and ordinances
- Performs manual custodial and housekeeping tasks and preventative maintenance of equipment.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Dependable and punctual attendance is an essential function of this job.

Successful completion of a criminal background investigation including polygraph, reference / employment / neighborhood checks. submit to screening for illegal drug use prior to assuming position and will be subject to return to duty, post-accident and / or random and reasonable suspicion drug tests while employed with BCSO.
