Job description

American Outdoor Products is hiring a Brand Marketing Manager to lead the narrative for two iconic brands: Backpacker's Pantry and Astronaut Foods. We are looking for a brand builder-someone who can tell a gripping story about a moon landing or a mountain summit, but also build the project management systems to ensure that story reaches the right audience at the right time. You are the guardian of our brand presence, shaping the stories that define modern adventure across digital, social, and retail landscapes.
American Outdoor Products - Astronaut Foods & Backpacker's Pantry

Backpacker's Pantry and Astronaut Foods are united by a passion for innovation, adventure, and exceptional food. We are a family-owned, 100% solar-powered business based in Boulder, CO, dedicated to sustainability and the "1% for the Planet" initiative.

Backpacker's Pantry: A 75-year-old pioneer in gourmet backcountry meals.

Astronaut Foods: The original freeze-dried "space ice cream" since 1974.
What You Will Do

Reporting to the CEO, you will own the marketing lifecycle from concept to execution, shifting AOP from a "niche powerhouse" to a high-growth brand leader. You are the architect of our internal systems (calendars, briefs, and workflows) and the guardian of our external voice. Your mission is to spark genuine connections with our community across digital, social, and retail channels.

You will also play a key role in driving field marketing, events, and ambassador efforts, helping the brands build real presence beyond screens. While performance and results matter, this role rewards creative momentum, strong instincts, and the ability to learn and adapt as you go.
Responsibilities:

  • Develop and execute marketing strategies to amplify brand positioning, increase visibility, and strengthen customer loyalty.
  • Create and manage the annual marketing calendar, budget, and forecast, ensuring resources are allocated effectively to meet business goals.
  • Drive storytelling efforts through compelling content that resonates with our core customers and engages new audiences.
  • Build tactical marketing plans to support new product launches, seasonal campaigns, and promotional initiatives.
  • Establish a field marketing calendar to grow awareness through in-person activations, ambassador relationships, and events.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and external agencies to execute cohesive campaigns and creative initiatives.
  • Lead social strategy and community management to spark genuine connections
  • Develop successful influencer and affiliate programs to grow brand awareness.
  • Partner with eCommerce team to support Amazon and DTC marketing efforts and email and SMS marketing programs
  • Assist the Sales team in the creation of trade marketing assets.
  • Analyze marketing performance data to assess ROI and optimize campaigns for better results.
  • Cultivate partnerships and sponsorships with outdoor organizations, educational programs, and other communities aligned with our brands.
Who You Are

You are a confident, brand-first marketer who isn't afraid to "get your hands dirty" building something from the ground up. You thrive in the space where creativity meets organization, and you are energized by the challenge of turning a legacy brand into a modern powerhouse.
Qualifications:
  • 5+ years of experience in Marketing with a brand focus(CPG or Outdoor Industry preferred)
  • High school diploma required; college degree in Marketing, Communications, or a related field preferred.
  • Proven success in leading brand marketing strategies and campaigns.
  • Experience creating marketing calendars, creative brief processes, and operational structures from scratch.
  • Ability to capture a unique brand voice and write compelling content across email, social, and web.
  • Strong knowledge of social media platforms, content creation, and analytics tools.
  • Exceptional copywriting and storytelling skills, with an ability to craft compelling and on-brand content.
  • Experience working with and managing agency partners, including PR, creative, and digital agencies.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Willingness to travel for field marketing events, trade shows, and activations.
  • Organized and detail-oriented, with the ability to juggle multiple projects and deadlines.
  • Natural storyteller and creative thinker who loves connecting with people through authentic and engaging content.
  • Ability to work from our Boulder office four days per week (Tues-Fri).
  • Ability to attend occasional field/trade show events per year (primarily Front Range and key industry shows).
What Success Looks Like:
  • The brands show up with a clear, compelling voice that feels consistent, confident, and recognizable across channels
  • Marketing campaigns create energy and visibility, driving engagement with both new and loyal customers
  • Field marketing, events, partnerships, and ambassador efforts build genuine connection and community around the brands
  • Product launches and seasonal campaigns feel cohesive, well-executed, and memorable
  • Creative ideas move quickly from concept to execution, with learning and iteration along the way
  • The marketing function is seen internally as a driver of momentum, not just a support role
Benefits
  • Salary: $95,000 - $115,000 (commensurate with experience)
  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance.
  • Unlimited paid time off.
  • Paid holidays.
  • 401(K) retirement plan.
  • Employee profit-sharing program.
  • Product stipend and access to industry deals.
