UNIT SUMMARY :
Levindale's High Intensity Care Unit, part of our Specialty Hospital, is a fast-paced and exciting place to work. The unit consists of 20 semi-private rooms, and can accommodate up to 40 patients. In the HICU, a team approach is taken to provide care for patients, who may require attention for an acute brain injury, need respiratory assistance or special monitoring, or require rehabilitation. HICU staff members are outgoing and positive, and must utilize strong organizational and leadership skills to assess patient status, implement clinical nursing interventions to modify symptoms, and develop and implement patient care plans to enhance and improve outcomes.
JOB SUMMARY:
Provides safe, age-appropriate patient care, assisting with activities of daily living while maintaining a safe and clean environment. With guidance and oversight of the Registered Nurse, performs duties to support the daily care of the patient including but not limited to:
- Total ADL care for patients on ventilators.
- HICU has Q 4 hourly vital signs.
- Finger sticks every 4 hours or every 6 hours or before meals and at bedtime fingerstick.
- Placing foley catheters and foley management.
- Blood draws as ordered/ starting IVs.
- EKG for every admission and as ordered.
- Documentation with rounding every hour.
- Managing fecal systems. (flexiseal)
- Changing and managing colostomy.
REQUIREMENTS : High School diploma: GED equivalent or High School certificate. 1-3 years of experience of total care. GNA or CNA Licensure; American Heart Association BLS CPR Certification; Hospital orientation/training program.
