Job Overview :

Schedules operative procedures via electronic scheduling system, using knowledge of procedures, area of body involved, equipment conflicts, staffing, surgeon preferences, scheduling habits and suite utilization. Works independently at the information desk, contacting patient care areas, takes messages and communicates to appropriate people. The Operating Room Scheduler is responsible for reporting identified safety issues such as hazardous environments (i.e. damaged floors / walls / ceiling tiles / unsecured areas) and medical errors, etc.

Qualifications : Required :

High School Diploma or Equivalent

Six to twelve months’ prior experience in a secretarial position

Successful completion of all orientation programs

Preferred : Medical Background

EPIC experience helpful

Scheduling Requirements :

Day Shift

Per Diem (Based on the needs of the department)

Essential Functions :

Schedules operative procedures via electronic scheduling system, using knowledge of procedures, area of body involved, equipment conflicts, staffing, surgeon preferences, scheduling habits and suite utilization

Works independently at the information desk, contacts patient care areas, takes messages and communicates with appropriate persons.

Answers the telephone and interacts with Operating Room staff, physicians,

Answers the telephone and interacts with Operating Room staff, physicians, hospital personnel and visitors in a courteous, polite manner,

Communicates information to charge nurse, and OR, any changes in the daily schedule such as add-ons, cancellations or delays

Calls other units, SDS, holding area, surgical waiting area for any delays,

Correct use of medical terminology and its use when filling out forms, logs and documentation for the operating room,

Keeps phone lists current and updates when needed
