Assistant Director

Augusta University is Georgia's innovation center for education and health care, training the next generation of innovators, leaders, and healthcare providers in classrooms and clinics on four campuses in Augusta and locations across the state. Under the general direction of the Director, the Assistant Director is responsible for the coordination and provision of programs, services, and accommodations for students with disabilities. This position will work independently to coordinate student accommodations and work directly with students to discuss their disability, needed supports, and self-advocacy. Additionally, the Assistant Director directly coordinates assistive technology resources and services for students with disabilities. The assistant director will assist the director as needed with the standardized testing function of the department.

The duties include, but are not limited to: DISABILITY PROGRAM ADMINISTRATION: Determines eligibility for disability-related accommodations through an interactive process with students, including reviewing documentation, conducting intake interviews, and identifying functional limitations that impact learning and academic performance. Educates students on documentation requirements and refers to external agencies (e.g., RCLD) when necessary. Develops and issues accommodation letters for faculty and staff. Oversees the provision of alternative testing accommodations, including exam coordination, testing logistics, and student support. Provides individualized support to students with disabilities and refers them to appropriate campus resources and services. Advises faculty and staff on accessibility concerns in academic courses, labs, and campus programs. Maintains up-to-date knowledge of ADA, Section 504, OCR rulings, legal decisions, and Board of Regents policies related to disability access in higher education. SUPERVISION: Supervises staff located at the Health Sciences campus in the Greenblatt Library. Oversees daily responsibilities of Federal Work Study employees assigned to Testing and Disability Services. Assists with supervision of the TDS graduate assistant and supports their student engagement initiatives and training activities. Directs and coordinates professional development opportunities for all staff, including graduate and student employees, to enhance disability awareness, service delivery, and use of assistive technologies. INSTRUCTION SUPPORT: Provides instruction and support to students with disabilities in the use of assistive technology. Develops and maintains accessible technology implementation plans for students registered with TDS. Coordinates university-wide captioning and braille needs in partnership with AMAC and other providers. Serves as a campus resource for accessible technology and its application in academic settings. TRAINING: Leads individual and group trainings on disability services, ADA compliance, testing arrangements, and technology for students, faculty, and staff. Participates in outreach to incoming students and families during orientations or transition programs. Collaborates with the Director on community engagement and partnership goals. Represents Testing and Disability Services on division-wide and institutional committees and contributes to university planning initiatives involving accessibility. OTHER DUTIES: Manages operations and workflow of the Health Sciences office to ensure alignment with Testing and Disability Services goals. Assists in daily office operations when needed, answering phones, greeting customers, and helping with testing activities. Provides proctoring assistance and backup coverage to support efficient department operations. Completes other duties as assigned by the Director.

Master's degree in Human Services field, Psychology, Social Work, Rehabilitation Counseling, or related discipline with minimum one year of related experience or a Bachelor's degree in a Human Services field, Psychology, Social Work, Rehabilitation Counseling with a minimum or three years of related experience.

Experience in higher education. Knowledge of assistive technology and devices for those with sensory impairments. Familiarity with strategies and experience working with students with disabilities, preferably in an institution of higher education. Clear knowledge and understanding of the application of Section 504 and the ADA, especially in the higher education context. Ability to recognize legal risk associated with certain disability issues. Demonstrated knowledge of all categories of disabilities and appropriate accommodations in an academic environment. Ability to recognize legal risk associated with certain disability issues.

Shift: Days; M-F (Work outside of normal business hours may be required) Pay Band: B12 Salary: $62,300.00/Annually-$63,850.00/Annually Salary to be commensurate with qualifications of the selected candidate within the established range (generally minimum-midpoint) of the position Recruitment Period: Until Filled Augusta University offers a variety of benefits to full-time benefits-eligible employees and some of our half-time (or more) employees.
