Job description

Job Description

Due to increasing demand driven by Grid Modernization initiatives—including Distribution Automation (DA), Smart Meter Infrastructure, and related programs—there is a continued need to upgrade utility wireless networks for greater redundancy, resiliency, and capacity. To support this growth, the organization is seeking an experienced Wireless Engineer to assist with rising workloads and major initiatives across utility communications operations.

Several large-scale projects are currently underway, including Private LTE (PLTE) deployments, Microwave upgrades, and LMR expansions. These initiatives have stretched internal engineering teams, creating the need for a dedicated resource to support region-specific projects as well as targeted efforts aligned with larger enterprise programs.

This role focuses primarily on RAN support, with responsibilities varying based on the candidate’s experience and technical strengths.

Key Responsibilities

• Support mesh and microwave wireless systems across the full deployment lifecycle

• Work closely with lead engineers and vendors to guide best practices in:

o Network design

o Backhaul planning

o Site surveys

o Bills of Materials (BOMs)

o Quality control and documentation

• Perform a mix of hands-on execution and technical coordination with cross-functional teams, including project management, engineering, and vendor partners

• Assist with planning and execution of multiple wireless projects, cross-utilized based on experience and specialization

• Provide technical insight and coordination to ensure projects progress efficiently and meet performance and reliability standards

Top Skills & Experience

• 5+ years of Wireless Engineering experience, including LMR, Microwave, and/or LTE networks

• Proven experience performing design reviews, site walks, vendor management, and quality control across the wireless deployment lifecycle

• Strong communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across technical and non-technical teams
