Job description

Accounts Payable Specialist - Contract / Temp Role

We are seeking a detail-oriented and reliable Accounts Payable Clerk to join our finance team at our Chesapeake, VA office. This role is responsible for processing vendor invoices, reconciling statements, and ensuring timely and accurate payments. The ideal candidate will have strong organizational skills, a keen eye for discrepancies, and a commitment to maintaining financial accuracy and compliance. The ideal candidate will thrive in a fast-paced dealership environment and bring a proactive approach to manage the AP function.

Responsibilities

  • Review, verify, and process vendor invoices and expense reports.
  • Match purchase orders and receiving documents to invoices.
  • Coordinate with service and parts departments to verify charges.
  • Reconcile vendor statements and resolve discrepancies.
  • Maintain vendor files and update contact / payment information.
  • Prepare and execute check runs, ACH payments, and wire transfers.
  • Assist with month-end closing and accruals.
  • Respond to vendor inquiries and maintain positive relationships.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies and IRS regulations.
  • Support audits by providing documentation and transaction history.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Essential Skills

  • 2 years of accounts payable processing experience handling 600 invoices a month.
  • Basic proficiency in Excel.
  • Strong customer service skills, especially in interacting with salespeople, vendors, and customers.
  • Experience in invoice processing and reconciliation.
  • Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience with accounts receivable and posting cash.
  • Proficiency in Excel, including vlookups and pivot tables.
  • Automotive industry or software experience (e.g., CDK).
  • Work Environment

    The work schedule is Monday through Friday, from 8 : 00 AM to 4 : 30 or 5 : 00 PM. This role involves working directly with the Controller and supporting the team through an FMLA gap.

    Pay and Benefits

    The pay range for this position is $21.00 - $25.00 / hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment. Benefits are subject to change and may be subject to specific elections, plan, or program terms.
