Atlas Data Storage is an information technology company building data storage products leveraging the unique properties of synthetic DNA. We are seeking a highly motivated Research Associate to join our R&D team dedicated to advancing our massively parallel semiconductor based Enzymatic DNA synthesis platform. This position will engage in hands-on, bench-level work, and collaborate closely with our Synthesis and Engineering team to design, build, and experiment on prototype testbeds to advance our proprietary DNA synthesis technology.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

Directly support the development of Atlas's CMOS chip-based DNA synthesis, including both Phosphoramidite and Enzymatic workflows.
Perform regular on-chip DNA synthesis runs, encompassing reagent preparation, script verification, meticulous chip handling, and detailed experimental note-taking to evaluate and optimize various process variables.
Collaborate with R&D personnel to design experiments, execute testing, and perform data collection and analysis to investigate surface, biological, chemical, and fluidic processes.
Analyze experimental data and clearly present findings in a group-setting
Actively contribute to various sub-tasks within the DNA synthesis pipeline, employing analytical techniques from both molecular biology and organic chemistry.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Biomedical Engineering, Bioengineering, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Molecular Biology or other relevant fields. 2-5 years work experience in an industry setting is desirable.

Prior experience with custom instrumentation within a workflow : running experiments to characterize either the instrument, chip, or other modules involved in the process.

Experience in research of solid phase oligonucleotide (DNA) synthesis (phosphoramidite or enzymatic)

Experience with laboratory techniques including DNA characterization (Qubit, Nanodrop, Bioanalyer, CE), PCR, qPCR, LCMS, NGS, DNA hybridization assay experience -preferred

Knowledge of silicon processing techniques or electrochemistry – a plus

Understanding of micro-scale processes, physics, chemistry, surface development – a plus

Self-learner and ability to grasp concepts and techniques on the go. Desire to wear multiple hats within a small unit and develop a well-rounded multi-disciplinary profile.

Mobility : Must be able to move about the laboratory and office environment regularly. This includes standing and walking for extended periods, often up to 6–8 hours per day.

Manual Dexterity : Must have fine motor skills and steady hands to handle delicate instruments, operate laboratory equipment, pipette accurately, and perform repetitive benchwork with precision.

Lifting / Carrying : Must be able to lift and carry up to 40 pounds occasionally, such as boxes of lab supplies or equipment.

Visual Acuity : Must have sufficient visual acuity to read small print on labels, instrument displays, and computer monitors. Close vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus are required.

Communication : Must be able to communicate effectively in spoken and written English, including reading technical documents and participating in team meetings.

Environmental Conditions : Frequently exposed to typical laboratory conditions, including biological samples, chemicals, and reagents. Must be able to wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) such as lab coats, gloves, and safety goggles as required.

Posture : Requires frequent standing, sitting, and occasional bending or reaching over lab benches or into biosafety cabinets.

The Pay Range For This Role Is

80,000 - 115,000 USD per year(HQ)
