Assistant Controller

Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, this position is responsible for all accounting and tax activities, including the monthly financial statement close process, maintaining accounting records in accordance with GAAP, implementing internal controls, overseeing financial systems and ensuring tax compliance. This position will play an important role in establishing the foundation for a successful first-time audit and rebuilding the accounting, finance and tax functions at Uscreen to support ongoing financial accuracy and compliance. The Assistant Controller will be a key member of the finance and accounting team, working in an entrepreneurial, fast paced environment and interacting with business leaders across all departments.
Responsibilities
- Drive the monthly, quarterly, and annual close process to ensure timely and accurate financial statements in compliance with GAAP standards
- Develop and maintain internal controls and policies for compliance, identify process improvements in finance and tax that drive efficiency and accuracy, and coordinate with auditors and regulatory bodies
- Manage relationships with third parties such as external auditors, external tax accountants, and other consultants hired on an as-needed basis
- Contribute to well-organized accounting schedules and file structure to enable strong document retention and accessibility
- Contribute to accounting policy memos by providing company information to third parties responsible for writing technical memos. Along with the CFO, oversee the treasury functions ensuring accounts always have the appropriate levels of cash
- Develop a strong relationship with the staff accountant. Foster an environment of teamwork and responsibility. Oversee the staff accountant's completion of transactional level accounting (payables, A / R, cash reconciliations, etc.) are performed at high quality
- Work with CFO to define, benchmark and implement operational best practices including potential systems changes as the company grows
- Oversee tax return preparation and filing for various types of taxes, staying updated on tax regulations, assist with tax authority inquiries and audits, and process various tax filings
What We're Looking For
The ideal candidate is a hard-working / hungry accounting professional that is excited at the opportunity and challenge of using industry knowledge to build a foundation and infrastructure for Uscreen.
Preferred 4-7+ years of audit and / or general accounting and / or reporting experience preferably from startup or high growth technology companiesExperience working with smaller, lean teams and in entrepreneurial environments. If no such experience, willingness to be a self-starter who enjoys problem solvingExperience in the software / SaaS space w / recurring revenueDemonstrated ability to handle day-to-day transaction level work as well as financial analysisStrong communications and interpersonal skillsProficient skills with Microsoft ExcelBS in Accounting or related field, master's degree preferred.CPA LicensePersonal Characteristics :
