Assistant Professor - Community Based Dental Education
Job Summary
Conduct teaching and patient care activities for the College for Dental Medicine with a primary role in the Community-Based Dental Education (CBDE) curriculum, as well as scholarly and service activities in support of the mission, goals and objectives of the College and University.
This is a two (2) year grant funded position
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Individuals must possess the following skills, abilities, and knowledge to be able to explain and demonstrate that the essential functions of the job can be performed : Have recognized knowledge and experience in area of expertise.
Ability to communicate effectively to individuals and groups, both in writing and verbally.Ability to interact in an effective and positive manner with individuals of diverse backgrounds, including students, staff, faculty, administration, and outside contacts.
Ability to effectively handle detail-oriented assignments and to maintain confidentiality; andAbility to effectively deal with multiple responsibilities in an academic environment with or without reasonable accommodation.
Required Qualifications Education : D.D.S. or D.M.D from an institution accredited by the ADA Commission on Dental Accreditation or equivalent, and / or completion of an advanced dental residency program at an institution accredited by the ADA Commission on Dental Accreditation or equivalent
Licensure and Certification : Must have active California license or be qualified to obtain licensure in California.
Must have a valid Driver’s License
Must maintain a Motor Vehicle Report (MVR) that satisfies the requirements of the WesternU Vehicle Use Policy. Preferred Qualifications Background in public health and community dentistry;
comprehensive clinical experience spanning all ages (e.g. pediatric, geriatric, special health care needs); and experience in clinical practice and academics.
List comments regarding work hours Usual clinic hours are Monday-Friday 8am-5pm with the possibility for an earlier start.
Sone evenings and weekends may be requires. Travel to CDM clinical sites which include but are not limited to, Pomona, El Monte, Chino Hills and Rancho Mirage may be required.

Percentage Of Time 5 Job Duty Teaching : This position holds teaching responsibilities in Community-Based Dental Education (CBDE) and as assigned.
The faculty member will : 1. Assist in implementation and delivery of the CBDE and as assigned curriculum, provide clinical supervision, and aid those aspects of student life which relate to the educational process.
2. Conduct preclinical and clinical assignments according to the published schedule.3. Maintain intellectual integrity and strive for academic excellence.
4. Promote adequate standards of linguistic expression in writing and speech.5. Maintain current records of the progress, including assessments, of each assigned student.
6. Assist with the implementation of the continuum of the dental students’ clinical experience from the foundational skills in the didactic curriculum to patient-centered care that integrates basic and behavioral science, as appropriate.
Percentage Of Time 60 Job Duty Academic Advising : 1. Serve as a role model and mentor for students.2. Advise students regarding individual progress and provide resources for improvement as appropriate.
Percentage Of Time 5 Job Duty Research : 1. Contribute to the research / scholarly activity program of the College.2. Meet requirements for promotion and tenure in the College, as applicable.
Percentage Of Time 5 Job Duty Service : 1. The faculty member has the right and obligation to participate in scheduled meetings of the general faculty.

Percentage Of Time 10 Job Duty Patient Care : 1. Participate in the provision of patient care services, as assigned, including : a.
Direct patient care that supports the educational needs of the program;b. Direct patient care to community members that may be too complex for students to provide;
