Position Summary

DRS Network & Imaging Systems in Cypress, CA is part of the Electro-Optical and Infrared Systems Group of Leonardo DRS and has over 30 years of experience in designing and developing electro-optical / infrared systems for surveillance and targeting applications.

We are seeking a Senior Test Engineer to join the company in the development of strategic space and weather systems.

Basic Qualifications and Required Skills

• Bachelor's degree in Physics or Electrical Engineering or related technical field with a minimum of 5 years of experience
• Ability to lead a technical group independently
• Ability to obtain and retain a security clearance is required

Desired Skills and Experience

Electro-Optical Systems Testing and in the following :

• Requirements Verification Methods and Processes (flow down of requirements into test methods and procedures) Test Plan, Test Procedure and Test Report development
• Hands on Integration and Testing activities (System operation, System Calibration, Data taking, troubleshooting, fault analysis)
• Knowledge of Optical Systems, detectors, cameras, telescopes including Visible and Infrared wavelengths
• Optical Systems measurements and data processing including Optical MTF, Detector Noise, Optical Boresight measurements, Optical Field of View
• Experience with test equipment : Collimators, Interferometers, Thermal Chambers and Vibration Tables
• Experience with MatLab, ImageJ, MathCad and MSOffice
• Emphasis on Matlab scripting for automated data processing

Job Duties and Responsibilities

Involved with the design and development of test programs to measure the functionality and integrity of products and services.

Write test procedures and protocols to assess product reliability and evaluates the ability of products to meet performance standards and specifications.

Debug test hardware and software.

• Responsible for leading group of engineers on a technical activity and completion of activity on time and budget
• Design, develop, analyze, document and support testing of products, systems or subsystems
• May use computer-aided engineering or other design / analysis software in the performance of assignments. Review customer specifications and requirements, and under direction, develop designs to best support them, including cost as a key design variable
• Provide budget, cost and schedule input for design assignments
• Specify and evaluate supplier components, subsystems and services
• Drive the program design to cost and design for manufacture requirements
• Develop prototypes to retire key development risks
• Communicate clearly (written and oral) with other company personnel and the customer as required
• Participate in preparation of proposals
• Provide technical knowledge and assistance to other engineers and support personnel
• Lead and direct the work of others as assigned
• Support, communicate, reinforce and defend the mission, values and culture of the organization
• Attend appropriate engineering, customer or business meetings
• Lead less-experienced engineers

Working Conditions

Normal for an office environment. Work may require occasional weekend and / or evening work and local travel.

The pay scale for this position is $98,288 / year - $152,593 / year . The pay scale information is a general guideline only.

Several factors can influence the pay scale for a position including but not limited to, Federal Government contract labor categories and contract wage rates, collective bargaining agreements, geographic location, business considerations, scope and responsibilities of the position, local or other applicable market conditions, and internal equity.

Other factors include the candidate's qualifications such as relevant prior work experience, specific skills and competencies, education / training, and certifications.
