Main Purpose of Job

This position directlysupports the Governor’s and Lt. Governor’s audio requirements for pressconferences, announcements, groundbreakings, Board of Public Works Meetings,events, and other meetings as required.

In addition, thisposition assist Maintenance Supervisors within DGS operated facilities dailywith additional facilities operations and maintenance tasks, including avariety of plumbing, carpentry, HVAC, electrical, and grounds work duties asrequired to maintain assigned State buildings, and upon request, any otherState buildings owned and / or managed by DGS.

This is an emergencyessential position subject to emergency release procedures. Employees in thisposition must be willing and available for duty at all hours, day or night, andare required to work report for duty at all hours as needed to maintain thecontinuous operation of this agency.

POSITION DUTIES

Dutiesfor this position include but are not limited to : - Operate and maintainaudio systems, remote systems, as well as those throughout the facilities.

TheExecutive Branch and General Assembly use audio systems daily. In some cases,repairs are performed during live broadcasts.

The technician performing repairsmust possess a thorough understanding of computer electronics, digitaltransmission and software.

  • Install and maintainaudio systems through the facility as well as remote / mobile audio systems aton-site locations. The technician performing repairs must be familiar withmedia broadcasting, public address systems, and audio distribution.
  • Perform additionalfacility operations and maintenance work. Replace ceiling tiles, floor tiles,and lighting throughout the building.

Makes repairs to equipment and tools.Performs carpentry repairs and painting as required. Create and execute assignedwork orders using the DGS Computerized Maintenance Management System.

Perform otherfunctions that may be required to enable DGS to fulfill its overall governmentmission. This includes assisting with weather related facility issues (such assnow removal).

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education : 1. Graduation from a standard high school or possession of a State high school equivalency certificate. 2. Successful completion of a formal course in electronics theory, practice and equipment at a recognized school in electronics, radio, or television repair.

Experience : Three years of experience in electronic equipment, radio, or television repair. Notes : 1. Applicants may substitute additional experience in electronic repair work or formal schooling in electronics, on a year for year basis, for up to two years of required high school education.

2. Candidates may substitute Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer inElectronics Mechanic classifications or Electronics Mechanic specialty codes inthe Electronic Equipment Installation and Maintenance field of work on ayear-for-year basis for the required experience and education

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Strong preference will be givento applicants who possess the following preferred qualification(s).Include clear and specific information on your application regarding allqualifications.

  • Experience setting up a variety of microphones, amplifiers and loudspeakerequipment used for media broadcasting, public address systems and audiodistribution.
  • Experience making repairs to computer electronics,digital transmission equipment and software during live broadcasts.
  • Experience in any combination of the skilled maintenancetrades, such as electricity, plumbing, steam fitting, refrigeration or airconditioning.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

1. Must have a valid State ofMaryland Driver’s License.

2. Some positions inthis classification are assigned duties which will require the individual to beexamined by a physician.

After an offer of employment, applicants for such positionswill be given a medical examination to certify the ability to perform theessential job functions.

3. Persons appointedto this position may, in some departments, be subject to call twenty-four hoursa day in emergencies.

The eligibility list will be valid forone year and may be extended. The list will be used by the hiringauthority to select employees for interviews.

Eligible lists may be usedto fill future vacancies of the same classification.

Please note, selectedcandidates may be required to complete and successfully pass a State andFederal fingerprint background check prior to being hired.
