This temporary appointment can be concluded before the stated temporary appointment end date normally with a two-week notice period.     $6320.00 - $6990.00 Per Month ($75492.00 - $83880.00 Annually) @ (1.0 FTE)

    $5056.00 - $5592.00 per month ($60672.00 - $67104.00 Annually) @ (.80 FTE)

    Position Summary

    The Outreach Specialist for the Responsive Education for Access Community and Hope (REACH) initiative Program reports to the REACH project director in the College of Ethnic Studies. The Outreach Specialist for our Responsive Education for Access Community and Hope (REACH) initiative will serve as part of a cohesive collegial team that is dedicated to providing effective advocacy and response for future students at SF State and their agency self-determination and empowerment while pursuing their educational goals. Under the direct supervision of the Project Director and in close ongoing communication and collaboration with the ASPIRE and Oceana Scholars Program the Outreach Specialist creates implements evaluates and continually improves recruitment initiatives to increase the number of first-year and transfer admit AA&PI students who matriculate at San Francisco State University (SFSU) on the path to college alignment with SF States broader strategic enrollment management goals the incumbent is responsible for planning and delivering programs for establishing and / or sustaining viable pathways to enhance the recruitment of academically prepared AA&PI students through partnerships with K-12 schools community colleges and other four-year institutions. The incumbent is also responsible for developing precollege programs and events to assist students with topics such as academic preparation scholarships financial aid and financial literacy and admissions / applications processes.

    The incumbent collaborates closely with on-campus partners such as AA&PI Student Organizations the Asian American Studies Department the College of Ethnic Studies Educational Opportunity Pathway Programs (EOPP) TRIO Student Support Services Metro Academies College Success Program and other offices / departments within the Student Affairs & Enrollment Management and Academic Affairs cabinet areas. The incumbent educates and collaborates with the public (including but not limited to parents alumni public policy entities community-based organizations and University stakeholders) regarding admissions requirements policies and processes for outreach and recruitment programs for AA&PI students and best practices for the successful matriculation orientation and first year retention / persistence. The incumbent will work to improve outcomes related to the success development inclusion retention and experience of AA&PI students by assisting with efforts to identify and eliminate systemic and institutional barriers as well as building the capacity of individual planning delivering and evaluating efforts the incumbent will utilize best practices and applicable theory / models of student development educational equity and social justice as informed by scholarship in the field to engage in thoughtful analysis of data about AA&PI students.

    Position Information

    Outreach

    Develop and manage a recruitment plan that includes strategically planned and data informed activities to increase the number of AA&PI and Low income students by working closely with campus partners community based organizations and Black student organizations;

    Conduct school visitations and attend college fairs transfer days and CSU Counselor Conferences providing outreach services and procedural assistance to perspective students. Conduct follow-up visits and plan / implement recruitment activities in the Spring semester. Provide training and updates for community colleges K-12 community-based organizations and SFSU stakeholders related to trends updates policy and process for outreach to and recruitment of AA&PI and Low Income students;

    Improve the vital yield activities for both freshmen and transfer admits providing mentoring to students supporting student cultural interests and student career planning. Implement new campaigns for pathway cultivation outreach and recruitment events and activities where additional involvement and more targeted / concerted effort can result in improved yield further down the recruitment funnel for AA&PI and Low Income students;

    Maintain a thorough and comprehensive knowledge of admissions practices for special populations and programs and services including but not limited to the following areas : Admissions Educational Opportunity Pathway Programs (EOPP) Veterans Associate Degree for Transfers (AD-T) Office of International Programs (OIP) Metro Academies Athletics AB 540 / Undocumented Students Early Start New Student Programs University Housing Financial Aid Residential Life Academic Colleges Majors and Programs SF State General Education patterns Alumni etc. Implement timelines and calendars for recruitment events to appropriate Student Affairs & Enrollment Management units University Housing Residential Life Academic Affairs the Division of Undergraduate Education and Academic Planning;

    Work with the Office of Undergraduate Admissions & Recruitment and other campus partners to create SFSU online / web and print marketing geared to capture AA&PI Students to develop promotional emails videos presentations and print and other marketing collateral used for recruitment efforts. Capture and post campus events on social media to showcase activities for prospective students and applicants;

    Assist in the planning and implementation of on and off campus special events. Represent the College of Ethnic Studies and ASPIRE Collaborative at selected campus regional receptions community and statewide CSU events;

    Serve as an advisor and resource to campus departments and leadership in their work recruiting and retention of AA&PI and Low Income Students advancing campus-wide competency and knowledge of high impact practices strategies and outcomes.

    Program Coordination

    Grow Partnerships. The Outreach Specialist along with faculty and SF State students will create an outreach curriculum that can be used to teach workshops centered on Ethnic Studies pedagogy and centering on AAPI history and experiences with education. The Outreach Specialist will create a REACH Pathway to College action plan that will include partnerships with local high schools and community colleges;

    Develop and deliver curriculum for college workshops college campus tours and workshops;

    Promote Financial Literacy. Access and awareness activities will include a heavy emphasis on financial literacy through an equity-minded and cultural lens relevant to AAPI and LI families to address financial knowledge gaps that impact college-going behaviors;

    Host REACH Reflective Action Praxis (RAP) Sessions with high school and community college students;

    Ethnic Studies Youth Summit- Coordinate partnerships with SFSU and local high schools for a day long summit to increase students awareness of college opportunities and resources and encourage students to aspire to higher education and careers with a foundation of Ethnic Studies;

    REACH Peer Mentor (RPM) Program- Recruit SFSU students interested in serving as RPMs and provide professional development / training on culturally responsive peer mentorship and financial literacy;

    Assist in planning and implementation of on and off campus special outreach events;

    Implement new campaigns for outreach events and activities to AAPI / LI population

    Lead development and implementation of REACH Pathway to College action plans;

    Consistent program evaluation and assessment;

    Research and publishing of REACH Program;

    Annual reporting of the REACH Program with PI / CO PI of the initiative;

    Work with PI and Co-PI in creating and delivering workshops designed to increase knowledge of higher education financing and repayment college savings and student loans to high school and college students.

    Minimum Qualifications

    Thorough knowledge of the policies procedures and practices of the program area to which assigned and the ability to quickly acquire such knowledge. General knowledge of the policies practices and activities of Student Services programs outside the program to which immediately assigned; general knowledge of the principles problems and methods of public administration including organizational personnel and fiscal management; general knowledge of advanced statistical and research methods.

    Ability to carry out very complex assignments without detailed instructions; advise students individually or in groups on varied and complex matters; determine the appropriate course of action and proper techniques to utilize while engaged with individuals and groups in personal interactions of a sensitive nature; reason logically and analyze and solve organizational and operating problems alone on several program areas; plan coordinate and initiate actions necessary to implement administrative or group decisions or recommendations; analyze and define complex organizational policy or procedural problems collect and evaluate data draw valid conclusions and project consequences of various alternative courses of action; understand the roles and responsibilities of others and to gauge relationships accordingly by taking into account the variety of the interrelationships motivations and goals of the members of the organization served; and establish and maintain effective cooperative and harmonious working relationships in circumstances which involve the denial of requests or the necessity to persuade others to accept a different point of view.

    Experience : Possession of these knowledge and abilities is typically demonstrated through the equivalent to four years of progressively responsible professional student services work experience which includes experience in advising students individually and in groups and in analysis and resolution of complex student services problems.

    A masters degree in counseling Clinical Psychology Social Work or a job-related field may be substituted for one year of professional experience. A doctorate degree and the appropriate internship or clinical training in counseling guidance or a job-related field may be substituted for two years of the required professional experience for positions with a major responsibility for professional personal or career counseling.

    Preferred Qualifications

    Masters degree and / or Ph.D / Ed.D in education student development ethnic studies or other academic field related to the primary duties of the position;

    Demonstrated experience working effectively to support the academic success and social integration of Asian American and Pacific Islander students in a higher education setting; and

    Proven understanding of and ability to appropriately apply student development theories as they relate to students of color and other historically marginalized student populations as well as social justice models of organizational change.

    Environmental / Physical / Special

    Must be able to competently interact with a culturally and ethnically diverse population of students faculty and staff.
