Job Description
The Fleet Manager is responsible for planning, directing, managing, coordinating and supervising the programs for acquisition, assignment, utilization, maintenance, repair, replacement and disposal of fleet vehicles.
Fleet manager also serves as the primary contact concerning the vehicle fleet and operations. Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or 10 plus years of fleet management / vehicle maintenance for a large organization.
- Great written and verbal communication skills
- Excellent leadership skills, including goal-setting, motivation and training
- Basic math and data analysis skills
- Ability to set and monitor a budget
- Good problem-solving, critical thinking and decision-making skills
- Exceptional organization, time management and multitasking abilities
- Keen attention to detail
Job Specific Qualifications
- Expert knowledge of best driving, delivery, vehicle maintenance and other industry practices
- Familiarity with transportation scheduling and management software
- Understanding of basic vehicle mechanics, including the ability to identify when major repairs are needed.
Responsibilities
- Develops and administers vehicle / equipment asset management processes from procurement to disposition.
- Create vehicle purchase specifications and purchase vehicles for all University departments.
- Establish and monitor purchasing, operational and replacement strategies and practices for most cost-effective operation.
- Fleet Manager is responsible in deciding whether a vehicle makes environmental standards, whether a vehicle should be assigned to better meet the needs of the University, whether a vehicle should be purchased, accepted as a donation or disposed of.
