Payroll Specialist

Hourly Pay : $16.97 / hr.

Monday - Thursday 8 : 30 am - 5 : 00 pm (Up to 29 hrs. which may include some evenings)

The Hampton - Newport News Community Services Board is seeking an experienced, reliable Payroll Specialist to join our dynamic financial services team.

In this role, you will play a pivotal role in our organization's financial operations by performing a wide array of record-keeping and payroll processing activities.

Your responsibilities will encompass computing wage and overtime payments, calculating and recording payroll deductions, processing employee requests, and handling terminations with precision and accuracy.

You'll also be responsible for verifying and auditing timekeeping records, maintaining time and attendance records, entering new hires into the payroll system, and promptly updating changes in pay and tax status.

Payroll Specialist Key Requirements :

  • Knowledge of agency payroll, financial, and administrative policies and procedures.
  • Familiarity with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Thorough understanding of state and federal tax laws to ensure compliance with administrative requirements.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the operations of computer-assisted accounting record systems.
  • Exceptional skills in making complex arithmetical computations.
  • Proficiency in maintaining accurate and up-to-date payroll records.
  • The ability to work effectively with agency employees and vendors to facilitate seamless payroll operations.

Payroll Specialist Requirements : 1 year of payroll processing experience in a computer-based system.

The Payroll Specialist's work schedule will primarily fall between Monday - Friday 8 : 30 am to 5 pm hours; however, does need flexibility to meet payroll deadlines.

The selected candidate must successfully pass a criminal history fingerprint background investigation, DMV record check, Child Registry search, drug screening test and employment reference checks.
