American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Pediatric ICU position requiring PICU experience and proficiency with the Epic charting system.
\n \n Responsibilities\n
Work within a 5-bed PICU and a general 15-bed pediatric unit in a hospital settingPatient population includes infants to young adults (0-18) and stable adult overflow casesCare for a wide range of patient diagnoses including respiratory illness, chronic diseases, general surgeries, trauma, and critical or intensive pediatric casesRN-to-patient ratios are 1 : 5 for general pediatrics and 1 : 1–2 for advanced care pediatricsEMR system is Epic; proficiency is requiredOmnicell medication dispensing system is usedFloating may be required to NICU with feeder / grower patients at a 1 : 3 ratio12-hour variable shift schedule with every other weekend requiredMay be placed on low census or on-call statusHoliday coverage is required for all holidaysDaily responsibilities include assessment, administering medications, patient / family education, and collaboration with a multidisciplinary teamSupport provided by charge nurse, CNA, nurse clinician / educator, phlebotomy, RT, hospitalist, pharmacy, case management, and social workRNs and nurse aides draw their own labs and start their own IVs, with ultrasound availablePre-employment testing and vaccination in accordance with hospital policy may be requiredOne day facility orientation and two-day unit orientation with preceptorDress code is navy scrubsTraveler-friendly environment with a supportive and collaborative cultureFree parking available in the parking garageTime off approved only if pre-arranged and pre-approved\n \n Requirements\n
Active SD or compact RN licenseMinimum 1.5 years of general nursing experience requiredPICU experience required, including ability to titrate drips and care for mechanically ventilated patientsCurrent BLS, PALS, and NIHSS certifications requiredCompletion of a board-approved nursing education programPhysical assessment skills for patients from infancy through adulthoodProficient in evaluating symptoms, vital signs, and patient / family educationProficient with Epic charting systemFirst-time travelers considered only with more than 2 years of experienceMust live more than 100 miles from the facility; local travelers not accepted\n Benefits\n
