Job Description
Autonomously performs complex diagnostic ultrasound imaging procedures for patients of all ages, under the supervision of qualified physicians for diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of disease. Diagnostic sonographers take the initiative to confirm the imaging orders for completeness and accuracy. Reviews patient history and supporting clinical data for medical necessity. Responsible for contacting the ordering physician if an inadequate reason for test is supplied. Sonographers utilize advanced knowledge to perform diagnostic procedures (inpatient and outpatient settings, including portable and O.R. examinations) by producing, assessing, and evaluating ultrasound images and related data. Sonographers are required to exercise independent judgment in the interpretation and analysis of exams and provide a preliminary diagnosis of the technical findings to the physician

Qualifications
Required Education : Associated Degree or completion of a Certification Program in Ultrasonography, Diagnostic Medical Sonography, or Radiology upon hire of an accredited sonography program and / or ARDMS registered (or registry eligible) in the areas of abdomen, obstetrics / gynecology (OB / GYN), vascular technology (RVT) or Cardiac echo (RDCS). Registry eligible candidates must become ARDMS or registered in abdomen within 6 months of employment OR ARDMS / CCI registered in adult echo or vascular within 1 year of employment.
Required Certifications and Licensures : Certified as a Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS) or RDCS by the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) or Registered Vascular Sonographer (RVS) or Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) by Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) within 1 year of employment. Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Certification from American Heart Association or the American Red Cross.
