Job description

Under the general supervision of the Information Technology Supervisor I, the Information Technology Associate (ITA) performs complex software application programming duties and systems analysis of software applications and their related databases. Incorporates best practices of logical design and normalization to relational databases. Creates and modifies database objects as needed. Develops, enhances, tests and maintains database applications for departmental projects. Provides system analysis for various projects, reports, application changes and migrations. Responds to software change requests and coordinates fixes and enhancements to existing Departmental production applications. The IT Associate evaluates the issue or problem, prepares a solution, plans the necessary changes or updates, coordinates their implementation, and provides documentation and maintenance for the update. The IT Associate will perform software and database testing; validating data output and behaviors of tools, queries and database objects against required specifications.

Working Conditions

  • Performance of these duties requires the use of computers, infrastructure hardware, networks, databases, electronic mail (both internal and external), voicemail, and the Internet.
  • May occasionally work evening or weekend hours in response to system outages / recovery, maintenance, or upgrade activities.
  • Occasional statewide travel on short notice may be required to support regional office locations. Travel may require overnight stays, driving, and flying.

NOTE : This position may be eligible for hybrid telework under Government Code 14200 for eligible applicants residing in California, subject to the candidate meeting telework eligibility criteria set forth in the CalEPA telework policy and / or future program need. Employees not residing in California are not eligible for telework. Regardless of telework eligibility, all employees may be required to report to the position's designated headquarters location, as indicated on their duty statement, at their own expense.

    Desirable Qualifications In addition to evaluating each candidate's relative ability, as demonstrated by quality and breadth of experience, the following factors will provide the basis for competitively evaluating each candidate :

  • Fast learner, able to pick up new technologies and concepts quickly
  • Experience developing and maintaining JavaScript and HTML / CSS based web pages
  • Experience developing dynamic data driven web applications using .NET technologies, ColdFusion and / or other web programming languages
  • Experience writing advanced SQL code (stored procedures, views, query joins or cursors)
  • Experience with SQL Server or Oracle
  • Experience as an IT-related project coordinator
  • Extensive knowledge of SDLC and business requirement analysis
  • Knowledge or experience with Visual Basic, C#, Ajax, JQuery, XML, LINQ, PL / SQL, TSQL, PERL and Application testing would also be beneficial
