Job descriptionCompletes other job-related duties and projects as assigned. Receives patient feedback via call backs, leader rounds, or surveys. Exhibits self-care as evidenced by balancing workload and scheduling lunch breaks. Schedules and utilizes vacation days to renew / refresh as appropriate. Recognizes stress or situational frustration while on duty and takes respite time as appropriate. Behavior positively contributes to culture on the unit as evidenced by following Code of Mutual Respect. Allows core values and standards of behavior to drive practice around care of team, patients and families. Accepts accountability and responsibility to address issues and conflicts. Follows up with unit director as needed. Acts as a role model and precepts new associates as requested. Communicate, collaborate, and function with other members of the health team. Gives accurate shift report. Follows Team STEPPS principles including participation in shift briefs, debriefs, and huddles to improve communication, patient care, and teamwork. Relays accurate pertinent information to nurse, physicians, director, and other departments in a timely manner. Responds promptly to patient, family and staff needs. Assists in emergency situations as directed. Fosters a sense of trust and collaboration among team members and other departments. Takes ownership and pride in their job. Respect the dignity and rights of the patient regardless of socioeconomic status, personal attributes or nature of health problem. Maintain each patient's right to privacy by protecting confidential information. Monitors stock supplies and materials, and reports shortages. Keeps the patient rooms and department areas neat and orderly. Performs QA checks as directed. Obtains and documents height, weight, intake and output, vital signs, blood glucose, and reports any abnormal findings in a timely manner. Picks up and delivers blood products per policy. Appropriately collects and delivers specimens. Completes purposeful hourly rounding. Assists with answering call lights. Delivers 1 : 1 staffing care when requested. Attends to hygiene and grooming needs of patients. Provides safe patient environment. Provides patient mobility, ambulation, positioning, and transportation. Assures the patient receives the correct diet and assists with feeding as needed. Thoroughly documents all patient care provided. Seek education and supervision as necessary. Participates in councils, committees, and process improvement activities. Has regular and prompt attendance. Attends and participates in department meetings and is accountable for all information shared. Completes mandatory education, annual competencies and department specific education within established timeframes. Completes annual employee health requirements within established timeframes. Maintains license / certification, registration in good standing throughout fiscal year. Direct patient care providers are required to maintain current BCLS (CPR), and other certifications as required by position / department. Consistently utilizes appropriate universal precautions, protective equipment, and ergonomic techniques to protect patient and self. Adheres to regulatory agency requirements, survey process and compliance. Complies with established organization and department policies. Available to work overtime in addition to working additional or other shifts and schedules when required. Leverage innovation everywhere. Cultivate human talent. Embrace performance improvement. The knowledge, skills and abilities as indicated below are acquired through the successful completion of a high school diploma or equivalent is preferred. Must be a minimum of 17 years of age. Previous patient care experience preferred. A Nurse Assistant certification is preferred. Must obtain Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS / CPR) within 3 months of hire and maintain certification. Familiarity with basic hospital equipment and policies and procedures. Able to perform blood pressure and other vital signs correctly. Knowledge of and correct utilization of good body mechanics. Requires an understanding of the need to be responsive and reasonably adaptable for scheduling purposes, when necessary, due to extenuating circumstances in support of co-workers and department functions. Strong team player. Communicates clearly and promptly with supervising nurse in order to give prompt care and experience for patients and families. Basic computer knowledge and skills. Moderate stress involved when census and / or acuity is high, or staff is low. Potential hazards due to possible direct exposure to patients with infectious diseases, exposure to sometimes hostile and combative patients. Requires the physical ability and stamina (i.e., to walk / stand for prolonged periods of time, push carts / wheelchairs up to 50 pounds, to position / lift patients at a maximum of 35 pounds unassisted, over 35 pounds requires assistance, provide CPR, etc.) to perform the essential functions of the position.
Nursing Assistant
Assist patients with performing activities of daily living when delegated by RN. Keeps the nurse up to date on any changes in patient information. Exhibits exceptional patient experience by upholding Beacon values of respect, trust integrity and compassion. Functions within the relationship-based care nursing model. Reports to the Director.
