Executive Underwriter - E&S Casualty

Zurich North America is hiring an experienced Executive Underwriter or AVP, Underwriting Director - E&S Casualty to join the new E&S Primary Casualty team in Chicago, IL; Schaumburg, IL; New York City, NY; or to work remotely from Ohio. The role involves working with national wholesalers to drive growth with a focus on profitability, meeting with agents and brokers, and representing Zurich in the marketplace.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain relationships with broker partners and customers across all industries.
• Leverage casualty underwriting acumen across risk assessment, exposure evaluation, and pricing to generate a profitable book of new and renewal business.
• Collaborate across business units (claims, finance, risk engineering, actuary, technical underwriting) to support business objectives.
• Use market‑facing negotiation and interpersonal skills to grow and develop relationships with preferred distribution partners.
• Serve as a customer industry advocate, improving the customer experience by providing end‑to‑end insurance solutions.
• Apply a disciplined approach to exposure evaluation, risk assessment, and pricing, using risk insights, data, and models.
• Monitor underwriting rules, guidelines, insurance laws, regulations, and rating manual rules.
• Work within broad limits and authorities on highly complex assignments.
• Coaching, developing, and empowering junior team members.

Compensation

Salary range : $98,500 – $215,000, depending on level (Executive Underwriter : $98,500 – $165,000; AVP, Underwriting Director : $130,000 – $215,000).

Short‑term incentive bonus : 15% for Executive Underwriter; 20% for AVP, Underwriting Director.
