Job Title: Floral Clerk

Department: Floral

Reports To: Housewares & Floral Manager

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Summary

This is a sales-oriented position - the Floral Clerk should have excellent communication skills and high stamina. This person must be people-oriented and be able to successfully communicate with all personality types in a warm and friendly manner. The Floral Clerk should enjoy customer contact, soliciting new customers, and building long-term customer relationships. Additionally, the Floral Clerk should enjoy floral arranging and have the goal to become a Floral Designer.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The Floral Clerk assists in the design and sales of all live, cut, dried, and artificial floral and floral arrangements for Lazy Acres by performing the duties listed below (Other duties may be assigned):

• Confers and plans arrangements according to customer’s request based on cost or selects appropriate standard design pattern.
• Attention to special orders and requests is a must.
• Select flora and foliage necessary for arrangement(s).
• Unpacks, cleans, and re-cuts fresh flowers; un-sleeves green and blooming plants; displays complementary accessories.
• Processes flowers; cleans containers, re-cut and cleans flowers; maintains display and rotation; pinches back tired plant products.
• Plant maintenance, watering, upgrading, unpacking, and displaying.
• Encourages sales through suggestive selling by upselling vases, ribbon, filler, moss, etc., depending on what the customer is purchasing or any item that will enhance the original purchase.
• Shares product knowledge with customers; educates them on care and handling.
• Assists customers with a smile and a willing attitude. Assures high sales through establishing relationships with customers to ensure repeat business.
• Ensures floral items are safely and securely wrapped for travel or delivery.
• Assist Housewares and Floral Manager in all daily duties and follows their instructions.
• Merchandises floral department with the direction of Housewares and Floral Manager.
• Operates a cash register following established policies and procedures.
• Responsible for the accurate recording of customer transactions, including the acceptance of payment in accordance with Lazy Acres’ cash register procedures.
• Responsible for accurate balancing of cash register.
• Follows safety work standards and reports any safety hazards to Housewares and Floral Manager and/or Store Director.
• Maintains a clean and safe work area.
• Availability Requirements include but are not limited to; days, evenings, weekends & holidays.
• Follows the employee handbook at all times, especially on service standards and appearance.
• At all times, meets and exceeds Lazy Acres standards in service, quality, and cleanliness.

One year certificate from college or technical school; or three to six months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Language Skills

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers, or employees of Lazy Acres.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, proportions, percentages, and volume.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to apply common sense and understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems and situations that are unexpected.

Knowledge of English

This is a customer service driven position. The candidate must have the ability to speak, read and understand English.

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger; handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; talk or hear; and taste or smell. The employee frequently is required to reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and /or move up to 25 pounds, occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment
The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
