AXA XL is seeking a dynamic Hull & Marine Liabilities Underwriting Manager to join our Americas Marine team.

In this pivotal leadership role, you will oversee financial performance, strategic planning, and a talented underwriting team for our Hull and Marine Liabilities product line.

What you'll be doing

What will your essential responsibilities include?

As a vital member of the Americas Ocean Marine Underwriting team, your role will encompass three key responsibilities :

  • Portfolio Management

Own the Hull and Marine Liabilities P&L across the United States and Canada.

  • Drive profitability and resilience through excellent risk selection.
  • Define financial goals, set strategic directions, and develop annual operating plans to drive success.
  • Monitor performance and manage results to meet or exceed plan.
  • Ensure pricing metric completion and compliance with quality standards.
  • Build relationships with Claims, Finance, Actuarial, IT, HR, Legal and Marketing, Sales & Distribution.
  • Matrixed reporting and coordination to Global Hull & Marine Liabilities Product Line Management.
  • Coordinate amongst Americas Ocean Marine Product Line Leaders for Cargo, Hull, and Marine Liabilities.
  • Report monthly and quarterly results of performance indicators to management.
  • Team Management & Development
  • Lead and mentor a team of Hull & Marine Liabilities Underwriters, setting clear objectives and providing constructive feedback.

  • Approve new and renewal risks within referral chain.
  • Manage talent development, including recruitment, performance management, and training.
  • Organize growth and the team's pipeline including usage of Producer Management Tools.
  • Cultivate a culture that aligns with AXA XL's Core Principles and promotes employee engagement and success.
  • Underwriting
  • Underwrite a portfolio of new and renewal business, effectively servicing existing clients with innovative solutions.

  • Manage net lines at a policy level with a combination of line size and reinsurance solutions.
  • Execute strategic marketing plans while ensuring profitability and compliance with industry standards.
  • Engage with clients through AXA XL's Digital Commercial Platform and tailor-made offerings to enhance their experience.
  • Lead marine cross selling across AXA XL products.
  • You will report directly to the Head of Marine, Americas.

    We're looking for someone who has these abilities and skills :

    We are looking for candidates who possess the following qualifications :

  • A bachelor's degree is required.
  • Extensive experience in Hull & Marine Liabilities insurance underwriting, with an outstanding emphasis on management.
  • Deep understanding of coverage classes such as Commercial Hull, Protection and Indemnity (P&I), and Marine Liabilities, Excess Liabilities including ancillary Property and Automobile coverages.
  • Proven track record in driving profitable growth and managing Delegated Underwriting Authority arrangements.
  • Excellent analytical, decision-making, communication, and networking skills.
  • Robust technical abilities with Microsoft Office and related systems.
  • Willingness to travel up to 20% of the time.

    The U.S. base salary range for this position is USD 155,500 - 233,000.

    Actual pay will be determined based upon the individual's skills, experience and location. We strive for market alignment and internal equity with our colleagues' pay.
