Overview

The Mainframe Technical Consultant (MTC) serves as the leading Mainframe technical expert for our clients, providing essential guidance on strategies, troubleshooting, and execution. The MTC is knowledgeable about client solutions and acts as a strong advocate for the client while ensuring that Ensono's technical teams are effectively represented in all client engagements. Open communication with various departments is a must, coupled with the judgment required to navigate the responsibilities of this role. Utilizing exceptional communication skills alongside analytical and problem-solving abilities, the MTC helps identify, communicate, and resolve issues while driving improvements to optimize client infrastructure.

The Mainframe Technical Consultant team is dedicated to enhancing the quality of service we provide to our clients by :

  • Building robust relationships and becoming a key contact for clients.
  • Engaging in proactive and reactive problem management to reduce the repeat of systemic issues and ensuring knowledge sharing among the team.
  • Coordinating with internal departments to alleviate client concerns and facilitate teamwork, especially for large, intricate projects and implementations.
  • Leveraging thought leadership to offer insights, recommendations, and guidance that fosters operational excellence.

Key Areas of Focus for This Role

  • Partnering with the Service Delivery Manager to identify and document Mainframe operational trends, risks, insights, and enhancements, while formulating appropriate action plans.
  • Working with the Capacity Management team to analyze data and trends, developing plans for performance improvement, optimization, and scalability.
  • Collaborating with Solution Architects to assess the feasibility of offerings for both new and existing clients, providing solution recommendations as needed.
  • Gaining a comprehensive understanding of client business and technology needs, assisting in the creation and maintenance of a Technology Roadmap, including identifying cost-reduction opportunities.
  • Having a thorough grasp of the client environment and Ensono’s support model.
  • Contributing to the development and execution of service improvement plans.
  • Acting as a liaison among Ensono teams and client stakeholders to unveil efficiencies, thought leadership, and process enhancements within the client environment.
  • Participating actively in Major Incidents, especially as an escalation point for significant outages.
  • Engaging in monthly or quarterly service review meetings with clients to discuss insights, recommendations, ongoing projects, and best practices.
  • Taking part in Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery initiatives.
  • Contributing to Knowledge Transfer activities for onboarding new clients to facilitate the transition to Business As Usual (BAU) Mainframe teams.
  • Mentoring and sharing knowledge with BAU Mainframe teams.

    This position requires specific qualifications to ensure that new associates are positioned for success at Ensono. Applicants must meet all Required Qualifications to be considered, while those who meet some, but not all of the Other Qualifications , are encouraged to apply.

    Required Qualifications

  • A minimum of 10 years of experience in a zOS environment alongside a bachelor’s degree; relevant work experience may substitute for a degree.
  • Technical expertise spanning multiple Mainframe teams.
  • Knowledge of Disaster Recovery planning and execution.
  • Proven experience in client-facing roles with strong Service Delivery communication capabilities.
  • Experience onboarding new clients in a managed service context.
  • Proficiency in collaborating with software and hardware vendors.
  • A deep understanding of Mainframe hardware and software infrastructure.
  • Strong proficiency in the Microsoft Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) sufficient to create client-facing documents.
  • Exceptional interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Customer service acumen at a management level.
  • Experience in establishing and documenting processes and procedures.
  • Strong collaboration and teamwork skills.
  • Robust problem-solving and analytical skills with a solid grasp of problem analysis.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to manage multiple projects effectively.
  • A willingness to take ownership of issues and drive them to resolution.
  • Able to host meetings and conference calls effectively.
  • Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience within a managed services environment is a plus.
  • Familiarity with mainframe functional areas like TCP / IP, VTAM, SNA, SFTP, Session Manager tools, and Disaster Recovery concepts, along with practical implementation skills for Communications Server and related ISV software on the z / OS platform.
  • Experience in a large-scale 24 / 7 production environment.
  • ITIL certification is desirable.

  • As of the date of this posting, a good faith estimate of the current pay scale for this role ranges from $100,000 to $183,000 annually based on a full-time schedule. Please be aware that placement in this range depends on various factors, including skills, experience, internal equity, and business needs. Additional compensation programs may include annual bonuses based on performance and equity grants under our Associate Equity Appreciation Program.
