Position Summary

The Med / Surg–Telemetry Registered Nurse provides direct patient care on a medical-surgical telemetry unit, caring for adult patients with a wide range of acute and chronic medical conditions. This role requires strong clinical assessment skills, the ability to interpret telemetry, and the flexibility to float to other Med / Surg units, ICU units, and ED waiting areas as needed. RNs must be team-oriented, clinically competent, and comfortable managing a patient ratio of 1 : 4 or 1 : 5 in a fast-paced acute-care environment.

RNs must be team-oriented, clinically competent, and comfortable managing a patient ratio of 1 : 4 or 1 : 5 in a fast-paced acute-care environment.\n\nKey Responsibilities\nClinical Care & Assessment\n\nProvide safe, high-quality nursing care to medical-surgical and telemetry patients.\n\nPerform comprehensive assessments, develop and implement individualized nursing care plans, and evaluate patient outcomes.\n\nMonitor and interpret cardiac telemetry, promptly identifying changes in patient condition.\n\nAdminister medications and treatments in accordance with hospital policy and providers’ orders.\n\nPatient Monitoring & Communication\n\nCommunicate patient status to physicians and interdisciplinary team members.\n\nEducate patients and families on illness, treatment plans, and discharge instructions.\n\nDocument all care accurately and timely within the EMR (EPIC).\n\nTeamwork & Collaboration\n\nCollaborate with physicians, case management, respiratory therapy, and other disciplines.\n\nParticipate in bedside handoff and interdisciplinary rounds.\n\nDemonstrate adaptability when floating to other Med / Surg units, ICU units, or ED waiting rooms.\n\nSafety, Quality, & Compliance\n\nAdhere to all safety, infection prevention, and regulatory guidelines.\n\nEngage in quality initiatives and evidence-based practice.\n\nUtilize hospital equipment including EPIC EMR and Pyxis medication dispensing systems.\n\nQualifications\nRequired : \n\nActive Michigan RN license in good standing.\n\n1–2 years of recent Med / Surg experience preferred (1 year minimum strongly preferred).\n\nBLS certification (American Heart Association).\n\nNIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification – or willingness to complete prior to start.\n\nAbility to work every other weekend.\n\nAbility to float to various units as hospital needs require.\n\nStrong clinical judgment, communication skills, and critical thinking abilities.\n\nPreferred : \n\nPrior telemetry experience.\n\nExperience with EPIC EMR and Pyxis medication dispensing systems.\n\nPrevious acute care RN experience in critical care, ED, or progressive care settings.
