ABOUT THE POSITION
The County of Riverside's University Health System seeks candidates to fill one Temporary Admissions & Collection Clerk positions in Palm Spring. Under general supervision, performs specialized clerical work in checking-in, admitting, pre-registering, or scheduling patients for hospitalization or clinic visits; evaluates and determines financial liability for services and establishes payment sources; arranges payment plans consistent with patient ability to pay; performs other related duties as required.
The department is seeking candidates that have medical front office experience, greeting and checking in patients, obtaining medical insurance information, verifying eligibility, collecting co-pays and scheduling appointments. Candidates should also have recent professional knowledge of, and experience with, the following : EPIC, Microsoft programs, and insurances.
The Admissions and Collections Clerk is the journey level classification in the Admissions and Collections series and reports to an appropriate supervisory or manager level classification. Incumbents are responsible for interviewing patients or other responsible parties to obtain, verify, record, and evaluate information required for patient check-in, admission, pre-registration, scheduling, and / or patient accounts for medical or health services. The Admissions and Collections Clerk is distinguished from the Insurance Billing Clerk by the latter's responsibility for preparing and reviewing billing to third party fiscal intermediaries. Advancement to the next level is obtained by competitive selection through an open recruitment.
SCHEDULE : Sunday 8AM to 5PM Monday - Wednesday 11AM to 830PM

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
OPTION I
Experience : Two years of clerical experience, including three months performing admissions, collections or billing functions in a hospital, mental health or other healthcare setting. (Completion of 18 semester or 27 quarter units from an accredited college or university in secretarial sciences, office practices, business education, or a closely related field to the assignment may substitute for one year of the non-specialized experience.)
OPTION II
Experience : Two years of clerical experience, including three months performing admissions, collections or billing functions in a hospital, mental health or other healthcare setting. (Completion of 360 hours of training from a recognized occupational training program in secretarial sciences, business education or a closely related field to the assignment may substitute for one year of the non-specialized experience.)
OPTION III
Experience : Two years of clerical experience, including three months performing admissions, collections or billing functions in a hospital, mental health or other healthcare setting. (Six months of clerical experience in a medical setting may substitute for one year of the non-specialized experience.)
ALL OPTIONS
Knowledge of : Modern office procedures, including the preparation of reports and correspondence and filing; the operation of standard office equipment and medical terminology.
Ability to : Perform complete registration cycle, including collection of monies; effectively interview to obtain personal, family and financial information; gather, record and evaluate data in the admission of hospital patients and the handling of patient accounts; maintain accurate records; apply the rules and regulations pertaining to the admission of patients, private and public medical insurance, billing procedures, credit authorizations, and payment agreements; work with very ill, injured and emotionally distressed people.

License : Possession of a valid California Driver's License may be required.
Skill to type at a corrected rate of 40 words per minute.

DEFERRED COMPENSATION : Voluntary employee contribution with a choice between two 457 deferred compensation plan options.
VACATION ACCRUAL (Bi-Weekly Accrual) :
10 or more years = 160 Hours (20 Days)
Maximum Vacation leave accumulation is 480 hours.
SICK LEAVE : Four (4) hours Sick Leave accrual per pay period with unlimited accrual.
HOLIDAYS : Normally 12 paid holidays per year

BASIC LIFE INSURANCE : Equal to one times annual base salary not to exceed $50,000 of term life coverage. Premiums are paid by the County. Additional Supplemental Life plan is available for employee purchase.
DISABILITY :
Employees contribute to State Disability Insurance (SDI), which provides wage replacement benefits for those unable to work due to non-work-related illness, injury, or pregnancy. SDI also includes Paid Family Leave benefits. The wage replacement rate, as defined by current law, is between 60-70% of wages earned during the SDI eligibility period. Benefits can be coordinated with other available leave balances to provide up to 100% of regular pay.
POST RETIREMENT MEDICAL CONTRIBUTION : A monthly contribution is made by the County towards retiree health insurance offered through the County as governed by the applicable Memorandum of Understanding.
