Job description

The Washtenaw County Road Commission is seeking qualified engineering students to join our Traffic Count Crew for Summer 2026. This position supports the county's traffic data collection program by installing traffic data collection tubes on roadways and gathering data from traffic counters. The information collected helps inform transportation planning and engineering decisions across the county.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Prepare and install traffic data collection tubes on designated roadways.
  • Assist in planning and mapping routes for data collection.
  • Survey and assess traffic count locations based on road behavior and traffic volume.
  • Retrieve and organize traffic data from tube counters.
  • Support general field operations related to traffic studies.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • Valid Michigan driver's license
  • Preferably pursuing a degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field

    • KNOWLEDGE / SKILLS / ABILITIES

  • Strong communication and teamwork abilities.
  • Reliable attendance and dependable transportation.
  • Comfortable working outdoors in various weather conditions and highway work zones.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
