Job Summary / Basic Functions
The Department of Safety and Security in the College of Justice, Safety, and Military Science at Eastern Kentucky University invites applications for a non-tenure-track Lecturer position for Academic Year 2024-2025.
Applicants should hold an earned Master’s degree in a related discipline such as homeland security, emergency management, intelligence studies, national security studies, security management, political science, criminal justice, public administration, and public policy from an accredited institution at the time of appointment.
Candidates with a J.D. may also qualify for this position. The position begins either August 2024 or January 2025.
The position serves Homeland Security majors. Professional experience in a related field, prior instructional experience, and familiarity with online learning management systems are preferred.
The successful candidate will teach undergraduate and graduate on-campus and online courses in the Homeland Security program in a 5 / 5 annual teaching load.
Courses may include disciplines in emergency / disaster management, intelligence studies, and security management; the successful candidate may specialize in one or more of these disciplines.
The successful candidate will also develop courses, assuring quality and innovations in teaching and learning, and mentor students.
Minimum Qualifications
Education : Master’s degree from a regionally accredited or internationally recognized institution in a related discipline such as homeland security, emergency management, intelligence studies, national security studies, security management, political science, criminal justice, public administration, and public policy.
Candidates with a J.D. may also qualify for this position.

Job Duties :
- Maintain a 5 / 5 teaching load, teaching courses as assigned at the times and in the locations necessary to meet the needs of EKU students.
- Utilize effective teaching methods, innovative teaching techniques, and teaching modalities, and multiple evaluation and assessment procedures as a means to help meet the needs of EKU students.
- Demonstrate the ability to teach, develop, and implement courses related to one’s curricular area.
- Mentor students in fulfilling program, departmental, college, and university committee assignments.
- Demonstrate the willingness and ability to work effectively with colleagues to support the mission of EKU, its academic units, and its campus community.
- Demonstrate respect for and support EKU’s diverse campus community and student population.
