Job Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for an ICU position caring for a mix of ICU and PCU patients with advanced critical care skills and Michigan licensure or eligibility.
Responsibilities
Work in an ICU setting that cares for both ICU and PCU patient populationsPatient assignments range from 1 : 1 to 4 : 1 ratios, depending on patient acuityVentilator patients typically assigned at a 2 : 1 ratio, with high acuity cases such as CRRT or cooling requiring 1 : 1 careExpected diagnoses include COPD, encephalopathy, drug overdose, DKA, AKI, respiratory failure, cardiac arrest, heart failure, and A-fibPerform and assist with special procedures such as CRRT, hemodialysis, A-line, central line, trach, and chest tube placementsUtilize equipment including cooling machines, Bair Huggers, CRRT systems, and for massive transfusionsScheduled for night shifts (4x12 hours, 19 : 00-07 : 00)Required to work every other weekendFloat to other ICU and Med Surg units required as patient census dictates, with Med Surg ratios of approximately 5-6 patients per RNManage a diverse acuity unit, including both stable and high-acuity patients requiring advanced interventionsExpected to administer and titrate emergency and vasoactive medications as neededParticipate in a collaborative team that includes staff and travel nurses rotating through ICU and Med SurgFirst-time travelers are welcome to applyRequirements
Active Michigan RN license or eligibility to obtain, with ETA required for considerationCurrent BLS (AHA), ACLS (AHA), and NIH Stroke certificationMinimum of 1 year recent ICU nursing experienceProficiency in advanced cardiac monitoring, emergency response, and dysrhythmia managementDemonstrated ability to manage ventilators, BiPAP, CPAP, high flow nasal cannula, and interpret ABGsExperience with IV therapy, central and arterial line management, and blood product administrationEndocrine, renal, gastrointestinal, and stroke patient management skills necessaryMust be able to attend the entire week of orientationBenefits
