Responsibilities Work in a Progressive Care Unit at a teaching hospital Primarily night shifts, 3x12 hours, 19 : 00-07 : 30 Unit cares for neurological and trauma patients, including CVAs, TBIs, brain tumors, hydrocephalus, seizures, post-surgical cases, and trauma from shootings, stabbings, and accidents Staffing ratios are typically 1 : 3-4 patients, rarely up to 1 : 5 during emergencies Travelers must be willing to float to various levels of care, including Med-Surg, PCU, and ICU, within the main and affiliate hospitals Cerner EMR is used, and charting experience is preferred Weekend work is required for 50% of contract weekends, determined by unit needs Travelers must agree to float and may be assigned precepting or to shadowing students as this is a teaching facility Charge nurse duties may be required with appropriate training and support provided Must work 2 out of 3 major holidays during contract No local candidates accepted for this unit First-time travelers are accepted Travelers must be away for 12 months if previously employed at this health system on a perm or PRN basis Returning travelers will need to complete pre-start modules averaging 8 hours Requirements Active IN or compact RN license required in hand prior to start date BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required (AHA or RQI accepted, must be current) Minimum of 18 months to 2 years of recent neuro and telemetry experience required Proficiency in management of drips is essential Preferred skills include conscious sedation and Level 1 trauma experience Must have graduated from an ACEN or CCNE accredited nursing program Two supervisor references required for consideration Cerner charting experience preferred Benefits High Pay and Bonuses Medical, Dental and Vision Insurance with Day 1 Options 401(k) Plan Weekly Payroll Deposit Free Online CEUs Generous Housing Allowance Travel and Licensure Reimbursements Non-taxed Per Diem and Subsidy Traveler Rewards and Discounts American Traveler Job ID P-628420.
