Job Summary
- Provide care, exploration, and playful learning experiences for the children in the Eccles Lab School, a NAEYC accredited early childhood model program at Salt Lake Community College.
- Mentor and model culturally responsive and developmentally appropriate interactions and teaching practices to college lab students.
- Establish and maintain a safe, healthy environment.
- Plan and guide classroom and playground activities.
- Assist in preparing weekly lesson plans.
- Set-up the classroom for the daily activities.
- Support and promote the children’s social, emotional, cognitive and physical development.
- Assess the development of children to establish individual goals for each child and incorporate activities that can support the development of these goals on a daily basis.
- Observe and record children’s developmental behavior. Exhibit understanding of principles of child growth and development.
- Establish productive relationships with families, including parent teacher chats.
Essential Responsibilities and Duties
- Ensure cleanliness and the general upkeep of the classroom and playground.
- Complete all needed documentation that pertains to classroom needs.
- Maintain a commitment to professionalism.
- Attend monthly staff meeting and in-service.
- Assist in the writing of newsletters.
- Adhere to Utah’s State Licensing and NAEYC Accreditation standards.
- Other duties as assigned.
Essential Responsibilities and Duties Continued Minimum Qualifications
- Be at least 18 years of age.
- 1 year of Early Childhood coursework equal to 12 credit hours or an earned CDA-Required (or be in the process of completing).
- Have experience in the job assigned and can provide successful work experience documentation.
- Be able to read, understand, and follow the policies of the Eccles Lab School Staff Handbook.
Preferred Qualifications
- Earned Associates Degree or higher in Early Childhood Development or related field (ECD, FHS, El Ed, or Sp. Ed.)
- 3 years classroom experience.
- Experience working in a NAEYC Accredited Program
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Demonstrate the skills needed to care for children and respond to emergencies.
Ability to communicate effectively with a broad range of diverse people, ability, culture, ethnic background, to maintain good working relationships across the College.
Ability to work with all groups in a diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic background of community college students, faculty and staff, including those with disabilities.
