WSP is currently initiating a search for an Early Career Geologist for our Columbus, OH office. The following locations will also be considered : Louisville, KY , Madison, WI, and Chicago, IL .

Your Impact
- Oversee soil borings and groundwater monitoring well installations, collect soil, groundwater, surface water, sediment, air, and soil gas samples, collect data in complex field situations with supervision, and document field activities.
- Perform other field exploration, inspection, testing, and analyses using equipment and instrumentation.
- Comply with safety guidelines and site-specific procedures which include but are not limited to, the maintenance of sample collection, location data, laboratory or statistical documentation, and logbooks.
- Prepare components of site investigation reports including work plans, data summaries, calculations, tables, figures, charts, drawings and report text.
- Assist Project Managers and project teams, ensuring effective client communication and relations.
- Organize field work, assign tasks, and work with other staff specialists and technicians to complete assignments.
- Follow company safety policies and procedures, site safety standards, and permit requirements.
- Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
Who You Are
Required Qualifications
- BS or BA in Geology, or Environmental Science / Engineering with geology field camp or equivalent experience.
- Analytical skills, and familiarity with geological research techniques, environmental regulations, and investigations.
- Basic proficiency with business writing, office automation and communication software, and technology.
- Interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to a scientific and non-scientific audience.
- The ability to work independently under general supervision, as well as part of a team.
- Physical Demands : The ability to lift 50 pounds, and to remain on feet for extended periods of time either stationary or walking through all types of terrain.
- Field activities may require working in unfavorable weather conditions, including heat and cold.
- Comply with safety guidelines and site-specific procedures which include but are not limited to, the maintenance of sample collection, location data, laboratory or statistical documentation, and logbooks.
- The ability to uphold workplace safety practices and abide by WSP’s health and safety policies.
- This role is subject to client-mandated drug / alcohol testing policies. As such, employee may be subject to random drug / alcohol tests.
A copy of this policy will be provided during employee onboarding and is available upon applicant request.
- Must be able to pass a HAZWOPER physical and be medically able to wear a tight-fitting respirator / Fit for Duty Exam / Medical Exam.
- Must successfully complete and pass WSP’s Motor Vehicle screening.
- Travel will be required.
Preferred Qualifications :
Completion of 40-Hour HAZWOPER training.
