Qualifications

Primary Purpose :

To operate a department, which meets or exceeds standards set forth by federal, state, and local regulatory agencies and to perform with skill multiple tasks necessary to operate department in which nutritious, attractive, and satisfying meals are prepared and served appropriate quantities of food to meet reimbursable meal requirements under high standards of sanitation and safety to all students.

Must be able to perform manager's duties when manager is absent.

Education / Certification :

High school diploma or GED (English)

Computer experience preferred

Level 1 Certification preferred

Special Knowledge / Skills :

Above average mathematical skill necessary to successfully complete daily meal reports

Must be able to account for all meals consumed by students and staff

Applicant must work well under pressure

Must be able to read, write and communicate in English

Ability to lift objects that weigh approximately 16-18 lbs

Work in teams when lifting objects that weigh more than 18 lbs.

Technical Skills, Responsibilities and Duties

In PSJA ISD, we hire individuals who demonstrate excellence in these technical areas as they lead others

Major Responsibilities and Duties :

  • Attends workshops, in-services, and training as assigned by Food Service Director.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of "reimbursable meals" and proper meal requirements for students of all ages.
  • Prepares and delivers breakfast to classroom.
  • Greets patrons cheerfully and respectfully. Observes proper portion control techniques (breakfast, lunch) and verify student meals are reimbursable.
  • May wash certain items by hand such as pots and pans.
  • Fills and stocks certain condiments in the cafeteria : aids in refilling these throughout the meal service.
  • Operates cash register according to standard procedure. Collects cash, meal tickets, and adult tickets; counts student meals as documented in collection procedures submitted to TDA (Texas Department of Agriculture) and makes change as needed.
  • Responsible for handling all monetary transactions. Locks cash register when leaving the immediate work area.
  • Work in teams to lift heavy objects.
  • Reconciles cash accurately; fills out cashier meal reports precisely, including cash, meal tickets, and / or student counts and beginning cash balance.
  • Maintains a neat, orderly work area.
  • Disposes of trash and garbage as needed.
  • Performs other duties and assumes such responsibilities as may be assigned by the supervisor.
  • Handle and record cashier functions accurately.
  • Observes Food Service Department uniform dress code.
  • Available to work in other areas of food service if needed.
  • Demonstrates a good rapport and cooperative working relationship with all co-workers; responds with concern and consideration.
  • Assumes responsibility for the daily clean up of the kitchen. Thoroughly cleans area, floor, carts, food catches in dish machine;

sanitizes specified equipment.

  • Demonstrates proper usage and storage of chemicals used to clean and sanitize kitchen and equipment.
  • Employee must demonstrate good attendance and punctuality.
  • Complies with rules and regulations applied by TDA (Texas Department of Agriculture) and School Board Policies.

Tools / Equipment Used : Standard office equipment including personal computer and peripherals

Posture : Prolonged sitting; occasional bending / stooping, pushing / pulling, and twisting

Motion : Repetitive hand motions; frequent keyboarding and use of mouse; occasional reaching

Lifting : Occasional light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds)

Environment : May work prolonged or irregular hours

Mental Demands : Work with frequent interruptions to meet established deadlines; maintain emotional control under stress
