SUMMARY
The General Accountant I position is responsible for supporting both the Accounting and Human Resources departments. These departments function with minimal staffing levels which requires employees to be flexible in their daily routines and cross-trained on all critical day-to-day business functions. The ideal candidate will be dependable, detail-oriented, well organized, adaptable, and display a natural willingness to learn.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES - Includes but not limited to :
ACCOUNTING :
- Code and enter payable invoices into ERP system.
- Process customer invoicing on a daily basis.
- Process weekly payroll.
- Assist in answering the telephones and the front door.
- Responsible for managing the incoming and outgoing mail.
- Prepare and submit any required 1099's to the state and IRS on an annual basis.
- Update and submit the Michigan Sales / Use Tax Report on a quarterly basis.
- Assist with month and year-end closing procedures.
- Other accounting duties as assigned
HUMAN RESOURCES :
Assist with onboarding process for new employees and temporary employees.Help maintain up to date and accurate employee personnel files.Assist in administering employee benefits, such as health insurance and 401K.Respond to employee questions regarding HR related matters.Other HR duties as assigned.Requirements
SKILLS and KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED TO PERFORM JOB :
Proficient with Microsoft Office.Maintain confidentiality of information utilized in performing job responsibilities.Strong attention to detail and effective communication is a must.EDUCATION and / or EXPERIENCE
A basic understanding of accounting principles and financial reportingHigh School Diploma or EquivalentOne to three years of related experience and / or training
