Job Description
The Department of Biology and Chemistry at Texas A&M International University (TAMIU) seeks a full-time Instructional Assistant Professor of Chemistry to begin Fall .
This is a three-year grant funded 9-month non-tenure track position. Continued employment is contingent upon performance and future funding beyond the three-year period.
- Primary duties will include : teaching 12 semester credit hours (lectures 3cr / course, and labs 2cr / course) per semester of introductory lectures and laboratories in Chemistry for science majors and non-majors;
- providing STEM outreach and recruitment; working collaboratively with the math and science faculty modeling high-impact practices such as the facilitation of differentiated instruction;
- identifying areas of discrepancies in students math and science knowledge to close the gaps in understanding upper-level science courses;
and serving on the Academic Recovery and Data Analysis (ARDA) Title V Grant Program team as well as other department, college, and university committees.
Additional tasks include preparing and utilizing course syllabi and participating in course assessments using institutional guidelines.
Research and publications are encouraged but not required to maintain employment. Initial appointment is for three years, and renewal is based on performance and institutional need.
This position requires face-to-face interactions through a regular schedule of attendance on campus and in the workplace.

Additional pay is available for summer teaching and contingent on enrollment. Financial support for professional development opportunities, such as attending academic conferences, is also provided.
Moving expenses are covered in whole or in part by the university.
Required Qualifications :
The successful candidate must hold a doctorate in Chemistry. ABDs will also be considered but must have earned a doctorate before appointment.
We strongly encourage candidates with a desire to increase student retention and outcomes in STEM. We desire candidates who have prior college level teaching experience in chemistry.
We also desire candidates who have worked with first generation student populations and can adapt teaching to aid students in bottleneck chemistry courses.
Service experience in STEM outreach programs, and / or research or teaching experience in chemistry education, especially pertaining to first generation challenges in chemistry and / or STEM bottleneck courses, are also desired.
Candidates who have experience in identifying and developing opportunities for community engagement and outreach initiatives are highly sought.
